SARS still using Flash Player despite security risks

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is still using Adobe Flash Player on its eFiling online portal despite the platform being discontinued at the end of 2020.

This issue came to light after eFiling users complained that they were having issues with forms loading on eFiling, making it impossible for them to attend to their tax obligations.
 
I predicted this day would come in 2017.

There was no way they could migrate every part of the system from flash to something else that was workable in time for the deadline given their prior poor record of implementation.

And fixing it? They will be working on this for 6-9 months to get a resolution if they start now. Theres no way they will be developing solutions to this in a week or two. Far too much to do in too short a timeframe.

Oh well.
 
I see the same solution that home affairs has opted for with the queues at the borders and the queues at their offices. Close them down.

eFiling will be a thing of the past soon.

African solutions. If you can't burn it down, close it permanently.
 
Crazy. I remember contracting to SARS around 10 years ago. At the time I was seriously impressed with the technology and IT leadership. Sad to see it’s falling apart.

Edit. Was actually around 20 years ago. Jeez I’m getting old.
 
They knew 4 years ago (2017), and have only woken up now.

Then they hot the gall to tell citizens to install, old insecure browsers/addons, to enable them to do their work.

Will they give give you a rebate, for putting up a separate system to allow you to comy with your tax obligations, without compromising you network security, and only switch on when you need to deal with them.

I think Noah used Flash on the Ark :-) And yes as you say they have had ample time to prepare and fix this shitshow

The Cleva Boy's at SARS, didn't count on browsers dropping support fo Flash, thought it would be like staying on an old version of Word or Excel.

Nobody is surprised.

If you told them 10 years ago, they would have stilled missed the deadline. That is how our government works..
