SARS suffering from eFiling problems

Had no problems at all, all done within a few minutes, though it was already accessible last night already.

Was about to file mine this morning when the website went wonky. Will file it later tonight when everyone else isn't also trying to access the page.

Went to do mine. All the years I would get $$$ back. Now this time they say I owe.:wtf:, nothing has changed over the last 5 years.

Looks like the medical aid side has changed cause now it shows 0 on the calculator on the website.

Load issues, I see it as a good/bad thing. Bad because of load. good because there is a strong uptake and people being proactive on the taxes.

I should be getting lots of money back this year :D

my wife had the same,

medical aid is no longer deductible, but you get tax "credit" for it,

with the medical aid for my wife being paid by her company ( on her payslip) its apparently no longer as deductible ( or creditable) as it once was,

but if you paying for it yourself like i am, it makes a difference ( or at least thats how our companies sars guru explained it to me)

I don't question if this is true, but it seems a bit illogical (but hey, that's government!)

This is a good sign.

It means people are keen to do their tax and get it done.

Still getting my deduction - but this is most likely because I have a disability so I can claim more back.

I quickly checked the medical aid calculation this morning. It's quite a sneeky change that Pravin brought in last year that affects one only now.

In the past your MA contributions that exceeded your so-called capped amount went to the second part of the medical deduction calculation. Now only the portion of the MA contribution that exceeds 4 times your medical tax credit goes to the second part of the medical deduction calculation.

I'm also seeing this 0 on the medical contribution...

Going to have to spend some time to figure this out... I'm still getting a credit, but nowhere near what I expected.

How do I figure out what my medical tax credit blah blah blah is/should be?

I also got this

Fark me... They've made this more complicated than it needs to be.. damnit...

Pravin you monkey.

You get a flat rebate now, R230/m for the main member and R154/m for dependants for last year, R242/m for the main member and R162/m for dependants this year.

Yeah, but how do I know the rebate has been applied correctly/my company has done their job properly?

I thought the part that you pay out of your own pocket is tax deductible up to a certain amount even if your company subsidised you for a portion of the monthly payments. Have not filed yet, but e-filing beats going to stand in a very long queue any day. I remember the old joburg traffic license department in the CBD when I think of long queues. :)
