SAT3 Major Cable Break

I was just going to start a thread on that topic, isn't Afrihost using Seacom? Is AH going down related to this break?

Believe they use IS, which cable, if not both, IS uses is beyond me.

*cries* There goes my Mass Effect 2 trailer download :(

Only international website that will load for me is gmail. All the other int. websites I try to access all give me a time out. Even getting timeout's with one or two local websites.

Oh well :/

Guess their (Afrihost) system is not really set up to move right over to the working cable?

Does Afrihost have anywhere that they post errors/maintenance updates?

Not.Surprised.

Staying and plodding along with the old way of doing things was just sooo much easier than spending a bit more money and ensuring true redundancy...

Afrihost do NOT operate their own ADSL network, repeat, Afrihost do not operate their own ADSL network. They cannot switch over to anything, because do not and never have run their own ADSL network. They just resell IS accounts. So the ADSL account you get from Afrihost is exactly the same as the IS account you get from Axxess which is exactly the same as the IS account you get from WebAfrica.

You will not see any maintenance updates, error reports, etc from Afrihost because they have absolutely no control over the IS network.

Ok, but what about the story of Afrihost using Seacom then? I thought that IS didn't use Seacom?

I also thought that IS had sattelite connectivity?

So if I have it right, SAT3 (CPT) is on the SAIX backbone? The new Seacom Cable, is that on the IS backbone?

and were back online....
just gmail that seems to be struggling

SAT3 is the international cable running between Cape Town and London. Saix is the name of the network backbone in South Africa that is run by Telkom, IS runs its own network backbone. Both use SAT3 for international connectivity.

my international access just went down, could this be the reason?
