Now we are talking. Its like eating goats meat. Tastes amazing if done right
If it wasn't for my kids - I'd look at keeping a few Rabbits - I have a perfect spot for them. Rabbit stew is delicious.

I just checked. In 2009 - the Sandton SPCA had to spend R10 000 a month on disposing of carcasses at a landfill. Its probably around R14 000 by now. A month.
I'm not being heartless, I own a 16 year old (slightly overweight) Daschund that I love dearly.
I'm being practical.
But why not supply the Zoo? Granted - I think chemically euthanised animals are classified as medical waste.

In fact. Why not have a big-ass rabbit petting zoo at the Johannesburg Zoo. And use the excess population as feed for the lions? win-win. The kiddies get to pet bunnies. The Bunnies get to breed like, well, rabbits. And the zoo can cut its meat bill.

Have to feed the rabbits.

I think its part of the problem as well.

Not really a sustainable food source due to the low fat yield. Your family will have protein poisoning, aka rabbit starvation, if you don't balance/supplement the diet with other fatty meats.

Game ( as in type of meat not shop ) butcheries may stock it. It's not a big thing here but overseas is quite popular.
