Science Must Fall? - UCT Fallist discusses Decolonization

All very well and good trying to rid the university of Euro-centrism (before you all jump on me for this I'd wager most of you know a damn-sight more about Europe/great Europeans than you do about the Middle-East, Asia and South America).

But with science you'd ultimately converge on the same thing given enough time. I sure as hell am not going to toss out 600 years of scientific knowledge and start over from basic experiments and philosophy just to come to the same answers. The best thing to do with science is take it and run with it, contribute and eventually leave your own mark on scientific history.

Schooling and university is an African concept, the first ones were this side of the Mediterranean. Our science is drawn from the words knowledge including Asia, the middle east and Africa. European/western contributions are mostly from more modern times.

This girl is missing chunks of logic and history.

At first I thought that she was being sarcastic, and I laughed. I realised that she was serious and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. So I laughed and afterwards wiped the tears from my eyes.

One minute in I thought this was a parody. Then I went to the channel and realised this was real.

Holy ****. I'm a Humanities student and I am embarrassed by the level of intelligence displayed here...

I thought for a while she was trying to make an argument AGAINST decolonization. I do think she talked herself in to a hole though and then latched on to the idea that science can't explain everything and tried to make that the basis for her logic.

Stopped watching during the second part of her talk, I started feeling a bit embarrassed on her behalf. She seems like a nice person who is terribly misguided.
These students really should be fighting for a better quality education.

When your anti-whiteness is so over the top that you go into negative IQ...

One of the other threads (although most of them really) shows that people on here (and many elsewhere) really do seem to think 'here be dragons' was applicable everywhere before Europe's advancements.

Anyway, from what I understand the idea isn't that you'd do actual science differently. I mean, why would it? It's about the history of the fields, sources of knowledge, promoting STEM to non-traditional demographics etc.

Numpties like those in the video are going full retard, though.

Agreed.

i think people are exaggerating their reaction to the blatant denial and ignorance more than anything else..

and those things you mention of what its about, is available to study.. you cant study everything at once. things usually start with the core basics and progress from there...

I honestly just can't. The level of retard and oxygen theft displayed in that video is just too much.

That doesn't only apply to science. It applies to any discipline, which is one of the reasons why this decolonization bull**** really bugs me.

It doesn't serve to add knowledge, it serves to remove it.

Please, somebody get that precious snowflakes' name, and one day show this to her employers.

Hoe de *** is dit die resultaat van ons onderwys stelsel?

You do the ancient Greeks a disservice...

Aristotle, Archimedes, Thales, Eupalinus, Hero, Eratosthenes...

i was thinking about that, also made me think of all the knowledge that was destroyed when people went on their book burning crusades

SJW's in disguise.

Yet I wouldn't be surprised if that was you. I know that it's not you because she is young and naive and doesn't have a thread on here that's arguably more retarded than her lightning comment.
