But one group that won’t be voting is the Scots Guards.
For a regiment that has seen sons follow fathers, uncles, grandfathers and great-grandfathers to the colours, that may be surprising. But it’s not for lack of interest in the referendum from the soldiers. They are based outside Scotland – in Catterick – and so have been disenfranchised. Unlike 16-year-olds – who are too young to drive, smoke, or vote for a Member of Parliament – soldiers, sailors and airmen and women who have voluntarily put their lives at risk for the benefit of our nation are now denied a say in its future. This seems an odd decision for any land, but for one with such a proud military tradition as Scotland, it is positively perverse.

"A Scottish soldier who has served in the British army, unless he has a registered address in Scotland, cannot vote. Any Scottish soldier living in England, Cyprus or Germany will not be able to vote, which I find appalling.
"A soldier in Afghanistan whose family are back in Tidworth does not have a say in whether his country is going to be independent or not."

If Scotland votes yes, will they appoint a governor general, or will Lizzy make trips north for head of state duty?

She has been crowned twice. Once in London as Queen of England and the commonwealth, once in Edinburgh as Queen of Scotland.

You see Chris, a lovely example of playing the man and not the ball. 'Salmond is a scumbag' yet even the article you link to says that Salmond wanted to give Scots outside Scotland a vote. Go figure. Just more BS propaganda and sensationalist rubbish on a ruling that's been known for ages. It affects me too you know?

I don't agree with it, as many don't, but I do understand it as it would be a logistical nightmare trying to prove you are Scottish when you don't have a Scottish passport or ID card don't you think? But to spin it and say it is "probably because they would vote overwhelmingly for the Union" is nothing short of ridiculous.

Luckily Scots are managing to see through this nonsense and sort out the obvious lies from everyone from the Tories to the BBC.

You obviously made up your mind before you thought about the question and objectivity is out of the window, but there are two sides to this you know...

“A lot depends on their age and time served. I know some units have conducted unofficial polls to gauge opinion within the ranks, with questions such as ‘in the event of a Yes vote would you rather stay with the British Army or serve in the Scottish Defence Force?’

Ok, a bit imprecise using the terms 'word on the street', but that is what I was basing it on.

if the Scots vote YES their lives will be transformed, untold riches and wealth beyond their wildest dreams will be theirs..life expectancy will increase drastically beyond the 40 odd years they have now, the sun will shine eternally and their grim tenement blocks will be replaced by gleaming palaces...all they have to do is grasp this magical wonderland which is within their reach, people of Scotland, drive your own destiny.....vote YES.........please vote YES. No, my mind wasn't made up. I am basing my view on economics, not fairytales. Then again as I said, I won't really mind if Scotland goes independent. They can finally stop blaming 'the other' (i.e. Westminster) and actually have to take ownership of their problems.

The point I'm making is that there are so many mistruths and misinformation, so much biasness that it's impossible to make a decision based on anything other than common sense.

What I am wondering about is if she would actively act as head of state in Scotland. There won't be a distance issue, but the rest of the countries with her as soveriegn have a governor general.

But you admitted yourself that you voting with your heart and not your head. If the SNP actually had proper, workable plans about an independent Scotland then I almost would certainly support independence. I just find it unbelievable that the Yes camp are voting for the great unknown.

Sure, but I don't see what there is to be afraid of in voting to control your own destiny.

Or stick around and don't change anything, and continue to suck the hind t!t.

Don't know, could go either way. There's been much more campaigning by the Yes voters, the No camp has been pretty much non existent except for flyers in the post until last week. Most of the people I know are still undecided.
