Queen warns Scots to think 'very carefully' about referendum vote

The Queen has broken her silence about the potential break-up of the United Kingdom by warning Scots to think “very carefully about the future” before casting their votes in the independence referendum.

With only four days to go to the polls and the contest on a knife edge, the monarch made a hugely significant intervention by stating she hoped Scots would consider closely what their “important” votes would mean.

Buckingham Palace insiders insisted her remarks were politically neutral but they were last night being viewed as the clearest sign yet she hopes for a No vote on Thursday. Henry Bellingham, a Tory MP, said Royal observers would be “in no doubt about her views.”

The Queen’s comments were made after she broke her usual protocol and spoke with well-wishers outside the church she attends near Balmoral Castle.

In an extremely rare move, police invited press to observe the exchanges after she and other members of the Royal Family left a service that had included a prayer asking God “to save us from false choices”.

Groundskeeper Willie From The Simpsons Intervenes In Scottish Independence

YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6vDzf-wSbk

Shrek has already said he hopes Scotland stays in the UK*- now, another great cartoon Scot has intervened to have their say.

Groundskeeper Willie, the redheaded caretaker at the school attended by Bart and Lisa in long-running animated sitcom The Simpsons, is less reluctant to give his view than Mike Myers, the voice of the green ogre, was.

He notes*how close the polls are*and says: "I am hesitant to throw my support to either side - be it the right one, or the obviously wrong one."

Willie is a bit more pro-independence than Shrek, ripping off shirt to reveal the words 'Aye or Die' on his chest before claiming: "That's not a tattoo, that's a birth mark."

Me and my ex in the UK (real Engelsman) talking about the Scottish vote and I told him I saw a thing on here where it shows Scotland is helping subsidise the UK with tax. They pay more and get less. This was his response.

not the case
and also
they have massive subsidies already on top of that
we pay for our precriptions on the nhs - they dont
they will see their economy crumble if they vote yes
watch
it will have serious consequences
the bank of sotland has already said they will relocate to england if its a yes vote'
problem is they want everything
keep the pound, keep the queen, and also want £10bn from us to help with their own defence system - they can **** off
it aint as simple as they would lead you to believe
our students at uni have to pay fees
students in scotland dont
hard done by - you have to be joking

You have to laugh at this guy. He waits for 100 Labour MPs to arrive in Glasgow from down south and follows them around playing the Imperial Death March over speakers attached to his rickshaw. What a nutter :D

Sounds like he's talking crud on at least one thing...

http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/university-tuition-fees/going-to-university-in-scotland/

If you come from the Rest of the UK (RUK), universities in Scotland will charge you variable fees up to a maximum of £9,000 just like England and Wales.

Lol. Just repeating the scare stories and all of them are nonsense. BOS are going nowhere. The NHS in Scotland is separate from the NHS is England. As is education. Scotland gave the English the royal family when England ran out of heirs. The Queen was crowned Queen of Scotland anyway. And who is this 'us' who must give 10bn? I thought it was an equal partnership?

Ah but yes, the arrogance. And we'd love to **** off but the UK are trying hook line and sinker to keep us on board. I wonder why? Because of all the money we take from the union?

Lol. That makes sense, huh :erm:

lol. Dont shoot me! I am just the Saffer messenger! lol.

I personally think it would be pretty cool if Scotland gets its independence back.

The university one is interesting. As it stands, UK citizens who are not from Scotland pay to go to Scottish universities. EU students do not, as EU citizens can't be diacriminated against. If Scotland joins the EU, either UK students would get in free, or Scottish students would need to start paying fees.

Lol. I hope so too.

And just btw, a Facebook friend I've known from school who has been quite vocal in the no camp announced his intention to vote yes last night. He said he's sick of the bullying, negativity and lies from the no camp, and the more he gets told we can't do it, the more he wants to prove we can.

For me its nothing to do with this, but more oil than Dubai and Abu Dhabi combined :wtf:

He obviously meant Scottish residents don't pay university fees as in
The Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) will pay these fees if you meet eligibility conditions; for example, if you are a Scottish resident and/or a qualifying non-UK EC student.
this is for any university in the UK

Partially true with some misrepresentations with the English anger thrown in. And this is the kind of opinion that have given the yes guys a chance. The 'You can't survive on your own because we are your sponsors' has gotten the people up North all riled up emotionally.

What you have to realise is that the SNP was aiming for more comprehensive devolution. Cameron basically refused cause he thought independence vote would fail. Now that it's so close he has had an 'oh **** moment', and is giving them more devolution promises to vote no.

Another thing that is going to happen with independence is that the politics there will become more divisive and interesting as the SNP will have less purpose and people will look at policies based on economics and principles rather than just pride

My concern is why is the UK so hard pressed to try and keep them? Obviously there is a gain for Britain. Else they would have just said: "Ok be off then". Now they even sending people to fight the cause on their behalf
