You jest, but the first thing I did this morning at work, was to ask the Butchery manager if he could create the Haggis recipe that I had just given him, he was keen, but lamented the fact that he had no stomach for the beast.

Now I am going to make simple Scotch eggs.....would like to have mde black puddin' also, but no pigs blood..... :love:

Countries don't like giving up their territory or citizens. It would also lose the UK some of status, now being a smaller country. No matter how little the Northern Cape may mean to SA, if Namibia tried to annex it, South Africa would be up in arms. Hell SA kept Walvis Bay for a few years even after Namibia gained independence.

Well there is also uncertainty driving the 'No' vote. The independence campaign have been completely hopeless in drawing concrete plans on how an independent Scotland would operate, especially on foreign policy (would they get into the EU/Nato etc?), defence and currency.

Who funds SAAS?

And I see they also offer loans, so it seems it's only certain students that get their tuition fees paid... Bit misleading to then say they don't have to pay, as if that is across the board how it works.

They are an agency of the Scottish 'Government' so presumably the UK tax payer funds them.

Well Spizz mentioned their education system is independent. But I'm wondering to what degree.

Is the issue then that both Scottish and English universities are funded through UK taxes but only Scotts get 'free' tuition?

I'm no expert on the whole paper trail, but I do know that Scottish education is funded by the local authorities who in turn are funded by the Scottish government.

Yes. And depending on who you talk to, Scotland pays more than it gets back or vice versa. But added to this, Scotland also has the option to vary tax rates ever so slightly either up or down.

Independence should put an end to the arguing about it though ;)

This is what I don't get.

I'm happy for everyone to have their independence but what would they gain ?
