For one, they are in control of their own destiny. Do not underestimate the power of self determination. Reminds me of the saying, 'He might be an arsehole, but at least he's our arsehole' .This is what I don't get.
I'm happy for everyone to have their independence but what would they gain ?

Best post of the thread.
Border control may be an issue though. Scotland isn't guaranteed an opt out of the Schengen zone, as the UK and Ireland are. If EU citizens can enter Scotland without a passport check, the UK may need to set up checks at the Scottish border?
Does anyone know how the Republic of Ireland-Northern Ireland border works. SA citizens have visa free access to Ireland, but not the UK. Do they do checks at the border, or only when you try to enter mainland UK.

Secondly, the very English Tories will no longer rule over them again. They will have more Scottish Tories who will emerge with allegiance to Scotland, and not their English masters.
Think of how many people in KZN or EC who didn't bother voting at all because the ANC would win that province whatever they voted. The same way, no matter how the Scots vote in the elections, the English in the South will always decide who wins.
Foreign policy decisions will be very different also, with a more Canadian like approach rather than an Imperial one
Am well aware of that ghoti. Our people (the lefties) will be guaranteed control of Scotland for a short while whether it be SNP or Labour, and then the politics will take on the same pattern of left and right that we see worldwide.Scotland has more labour than tories. Tories are the conservative party.
Less borders > more borders imo
I'm waiting for a one world government, removal of all borders and never having to deal with passports, visa or permits ever again

They have neither. Walk in or out as you please (or swim)
I see that Scotland has a republican movement too. My bet would be switching after Lizzie dies. No one wants Charles as a king.
Leading financial spread better IG has put the chances that Scots will vote to remain in the Union at 81pc.
It said a survey of other spread betters and investor behaviour on its own platform indicated that investors believe the referendum is still far more likely to end with a 'No' vote.
Brenda Kelly, chief market strategist at the broker, said a straw poll of nearly 200 of IG's clients put even more weight behind the 'No' camp, with 88pc saying they think the Scots will stay.
IG's so-called 'binary trade' on Scottish independence, where investors bet on either a 'Yes' or 'No' outcome in this week's referendum, currently places far more probability on the 'No' vote.
But David Madden, market analyst at IG, said the Scottish referendum binary is "by far one of the most actively traded, and [with the] most balanced flow" that the spread better had ever seen, meaning that investors' predictions for the outcome are more deeply split than in past political events.
