didnt they sink R40m into ADSL?
i am sure they could not have recouped it all

they are only cancelling ADSL, wimax will carry on as usual. here's a copy of the email:

Dear Screamer ADSL Client

It is becoming increasingly difficult to guarantee the quality of service that we set for our ADSL clients. This is mainly
because we have to rely on a number of sub contractors, one of which is Telkom SA Ltd, to provide certain portions of
the service. This results in some unacceptable bandwidth and connection performance to our ADSL clients which we
can no longer accept. Our WiMAX services reputation is also becoming tainted with the performance reputation and it
is for this reason that we have, regretfully, decided to withdraw from providing ADSL services from the 31st May 2010.

The fact that we are in control of our own WiMAX network makes it possible for us to not only determine the quality of
the services we provide our clients but also the pricing. As an example we are providing our WiMAX clients with
Broadband and telephone services which are even cheaper than our ADSL prices and the quality of the service is far superior.

If you would like some information on what would be required to obtain one of our WiMAX connections please reply to
this e-mail or phone Victor on 0860 SCREAM (0860 727326) or else we recommend that you contact one of the many ADSL
Service Providers that have recently become active in the SA market to change your service provider.

Regards

Screamer Technical support

I see thought that they're still selling their ADSL packages on their website. Wouldn't it be good business practice to remove it?

I think that's a big shame. Really all they needed to do was improve their support transparency.

Look, I don't know how many times I said that on this thread... I would have stuck around if I knew what was going on ever. They were rude at the support desk, uninformed and constantly shifting the blame. I feal sorry for them, but thats what you get when you sell a product that really isn't anywhere near being ready.

This is mainly because we have to rely on a number of sub contractors, one of which is Telkom SA Ltd
HAAAR HAAAR HAARR

MUST be Telkom's fault that Screamer didn't buy sufficient capacity from them for the size of their client base...

Strange... wonder how all the other ADSL ISPs manage to do it then?

Or maybe they actually know what they're doing, rather than shift the blame.

received another email from Screamer today stating BCSnet will soon be offering ADSL instead of Screamer. has anyone heard of them and are they reliable?
here's a copy of the email. please PM your email address to me if you would like me to forward it to you.

Dear Screamer ADSL Clients,

Screamer Telecoms has partnered with its upstream service provider, BCSnet, to bring you the following exciting news:

The ADSL services you presently enjoy from Screamer, will in future be delivered to you directly by BCSnet, the existing upstream service provider.
The transition to BCSnet will be seamless to our users and the only impact you should experience will be a change in your ADSL account log in details.

Within the next 2days you will receive a follow up email with all the relevant contact details and support aliases for any enquiries.

Kind regards,

Screamer Telecommunications

Got the e-mail earlier too.

Are they just assuming that we're going to switch to this new ISP after spending the last two weeks looking at alternative options? Surely they should check whether or not we actually want to take up the offer? And what about pricing? Do they expect us to keep paying R399 for the 384 package? Surely not, when Mweb offers the ADSL line rental + uncapped data for R349.

Bizarre customer relationship management, but I fear that it is consistent with my brief experience with Screamer (only joined in Feb).

I agree with you Muggins.. I doubt anyone will carry on with them.
I signed up to the afrihost 15gb capped package last night and so far I've had a much better service than i ever did with screamer

has anyone heard of this BCSNET before? what are their services like and how long have they been in the market?

Well, seeing as there were constant problems with "the upstream provider" I wouldn't touch them, not even on their respective studios. Leaving Screamer and their B(C)SNET upstream provider was the best thing I ever did. Look elsewhere, even the bird shop, for your broadband requirements.

Screamer should change their slogan from "We're not stealing customers from our competitors, we're upgrading them" to "We're not stealing customers from our competitors, we're exchanging them for unpaid bill":erm:

BCSNet is awful upstream provider for Screamer & DigiChilli.

Screamer pricing

If anyone from Screamer sales are reading this thread...
Why on earth are your prices still as sky-high ? Screamer hasn't dropped their prices one sent so as to remain competitive with the rest of the industry.
If EaSSy cable leads to further reduction, will Screamer follow or will your prices just remain at current Sky high) levels ?
Yes, I know Screamer will counter with "If we drop prices we will not be able to maintain service levels".
I guess you've got me by the balls because I live in rural area.

Screamer tech support please explain to me why on earth I can't get the Steam client to download anything when using Screamer. Note, when using Vodacom/MTN 3G, ADSL or another WISP I CAN get downloads. It's only in Screamer that it seems to be blocked. Where are my packets getting lost ? If I am lucky I can get 3,2k p/sec download speeds. I've used NetLimeter to look at which IP addresses and ports Steam connects and strangely, almost no data is coming through.
I pay more than R1000 pm for a service that I can barely use.
This is my GPS coordinates: -23.689418, 27.74022. This is where I live.
