Screamer WiMax

2% international packet-loss tonight - against my better judgement I joined a 25-man instance tonight .... mistake.

Seems like the problem is Neotel (based on their forum) ..... still .... I don't pay Neotel and nobody at Screamer even acknowledges the problem.

They should have a backup provider. Or send some of their traffic through another provider.:D

Hey guys,

About to sign up with these guys as Telscum don't have lines in my area (Greenstone Hill).. Would mainly like to use this connection for gaming on my Xbox 360, though the latency looks a tad high.

Anyone else using wimax for gaming? Is it acceptable? Does the technology allow the latencies to get better, and will Screamer actually optimize their network to get better latencies?

Thanks.

I have cancelled my Warcraft subscription as the game has been too painful to play in South Africa.

My internet access options were very limited as I didn't and don't have access to adsl in the area that I live. Whilst Screamer provided "some" access it isn't acceptable for online gaming and the pain of using this service has finally weaned me off the game.

I will continue to use Screamer until I move house as it is acceptable for browsing the 'net and downloading.

Good luck to the rest of you.

Signing out ....

To be honest , i made another call today to try and escalate the problem , again.

Syncing to the EU even with gamemax is horrid at the moment due to the packet loss and im afraid i might soon make the same decision.

although i doubt i will keep my wimax connection as its the only thing i use it for.

I really don't get it why everyone is so keen about Screamer. Fine they are cheap, but you don't get internet, you get rubbish. I tested it for three months, or at least I paid for three months I couldn't really test it because I had up to 10% packet loss and latencies of up to 600ms

I was getting really bad latency spikes last night, making playing WoW impossible.

"""Please note that Telkom SA is conducting major maintenance on the shunt fault on SAT-3. This maintenance will run from the 20-22 January 2010 and resume again on the 29 January to 01 February 2010 within the maintenance window. Due to this maintenance, there will be intermittent high latency to London UK and Paris for the duration of this maintenance."""

Did you get it from screamer or did you go buy the equipment yourself?

I'm in a Wifi area so they installed that :)

now, every few hours my connection drops and i either have to do a ipconfig /renew or restart the POE, any suggestions on how to stop that from happening?

I only tried it for a good hour or two this weekend, seems a lot better.

Seems like the disconnect issue rotates.

When mine is fine, everyone else starts complaining and visa versa.

Did any of you guys have a problem getting your voice gateway to work (if you use one that is)
I've had mine for a week now and they still can't manage to get it working...is it really -that- hard?

It's a Linksys, but the problem according to them is not the Linksys but that they need to upgrade the frequency on the tower I'm connecting to to 2.5... that was on friday :(

Hi
