Glad it is not around my children. I would be very nervous if people felt the need to come to a childs school armed. I respect your right that you feel the need to carry a loaded firearm near children, but personally I would prefer no firearms be allowed near my kids at a school. I dont know you from a ball of soap. I dont know if you are a highly trained individual with the right skills and mental maturity to carry a firearm and I dont know if you are a lunatic ammophile who is compensating for other deficiencies. Since I dont know, personally I would want all people with firearms kept away from my children at school.
Just like ammophiles want their rights to be respected so they can have guns on them at all time, they need to respect other people who dont want that type of environment near their children.
I am not Rambo nor do I have any delusions or desires to take on one or more criminals. As I am often out and about with my 2 young daughters the firearm is an equaliser in a last resort situation.
I also want to stress that a firearm is a tool for private defence. I will always try to prevent/avert/get away from a conflict situation but if left with no other alternatives I will pretect myself and loved ones with lethal force.
As far as my mental maturity is concerned - my wife is a clinical psychologist who approves and fully supports the tools I carry.
(Especially after 2 break-ins while we were at home - needless to say we have subsequently moved house to a better area)
Do I feel it necessary to carry while on school grounds? That is not really the point - we are most vulnerable when leaving and entering our house and when arriving at school property it would be very irresponsible to handle a firearm and leaving it in the car; hence it stays on my person.
I will also add that if carried in a retension holster (like mine) the firearm does not come out unless I draw it.
Point in case I came off my mountain bike whilst cycling down tokai forest and lost a few things (my dignity for one) but the firearm was not one of them.
I also carry on me a special lock in the form of a magazine that once inserted in place of the magazine and locked it renders the firearm inoperable + have a special safe mounted in the car for the odd occasion where I need secure storage when not at home - eg. When swimming with my girls.
Furthermore I practice regularly and have done several training courses to further my skills.
I understand and respect your concerns - hopefully from the above you will take away that firearm ownership is not something taken lighty and safety is the number one concern.
If you are in CT (can't see from my phone) I will gladly take you to the range and let you find out for yourself that a firearm is just an inanimate object that on it's own is not something to be feared.
