Sending back faulty hardware

You're not happy with the product, other units are the same apparently, you've been offered a full refund, maybe you should pick up your pom-poms and move on?

You might find the skill a bit hard to pick up, but I was only offered a full refund long after my last posting. Posts are sequenced by time, ponder.

Before Ratwiz's post I was told via email correspondence that I would not be able to return the replacement if it displayed the same defect. That means that at the time of my posting the offer for the full refund did not stand. Actually, the exact opposite. Maybe get the full story before you insult me next time.

You might even notice that a few posts directly above you I said that the backlight bleed was not as excessive as the previous and I can learn to live with it, indicating that I had elected to move on. Learn to read, idiot.

Or you should understand the issue properly before insulting. Thing here is that in different situations different measures of acceptability would apply. In may not bother someone working in the office on a mostly white background but for someone gaming on a dark background it may cause eye problems. CPA has extended protection not just to broken units but units that don't meet the expected quality as well. Other units may be the same but other brands may not. Have had issues now with all their disk drive trays getting stuck at some point in their life. From what's been described here LG has quality issues and design flaws most other brands don't.

With a reply like that, I will definitely make my next purchase from wootware!
Wootware doesn't seem to be the issue. LG however does. I was undecided whether my next drive purchase should be with them. This has just affirmed they haven't sorted out their design and quality issues and I won't be and neither would my next screen purchase.

And like I said, I have no issue with Wootware or the people working there. They're a really friendly bunch and they are helpful to the best of their ability. The nature and size of their operation simply does not allow them the same amount of support that an entity like TakeAlot does. TakeAlot is able to take full responsibility for the goods they sell, whereas Wootware defers that responsibility to the manufacturer the moment the product leaves their door. My case where I was offered an exchange before RMA was a special concession, not the norm.

Have a look at the return policies of the two:

Wootware:

Returns Policy
Returns:
If a client is not satisfied with a purchase, it can be returned within seven days of the delivery for a full refund, less the shipping costs. Full refunds will only be issued if products are returned unopened and with all packaging and any other materials that were part of the original purchase.

Should an opened product be returned, a 25% re-stocking fee will be charged, provided that all the original packaging and all materials are provided with it. Should an opened item be returned without some or all of the original packaging and materials, Wootware reserves the right, at its sole discretion to levy an additional fee.

Goods returned in opened packaging need to be returned in a condition that is fit for resale. Software and consumables can only be returned if they have not been opened.

All products being shipped back to Wootware should be carefully packed in protective materials where necessary. The package should have the order number and return address clearly marked. Should a product be damaged while being shipped to our offices; Wootware Computers will not be liable for the damages. It is recommended to insure any items that you send to us.

Replacements:
All products sold by Wootware are covered by the manufacturer's original warranty, which is at least 1 year from the date of order, unless otherwise stated. Some products have longer manufacturer warranties, and we honour these warranties as well.

Should you have a faulty item, contact us and we'll assist you by providing you with the details for the return process. In this case, the customer will be responsible for arranging delivery of the faulty item back to Wootware, but Wootware will cover the return shipping costs back to the customer.

In the unlikely event that a product sold by Wootware is DOA (Dead on arrival) or becomes faulty within 30 days of the delivery date, we will arrange for a courier to collect the item from you and will cover the shipping costs both ways. It's just another way that we aim to make the shopping experience with us a total woot!

TakeAlot:

3: Returning defective or damaged products

We do our best to ensure that the products we deliver to you are of a high quality. If you’ve received a product with a defect or fault, we’ll gladly replace the exact product at no additional cost to you. Where a replacement product is not available, your account will be credited.

Our 7-day drop-and-collect replacement promise entitles you to an immediate replacement of a damaged or defective product within 7 days of receipt. For your convenience, our courier will collect the defective product whilst delivering your replacement.

Our 6-month replacement warranty entitles you to have your product replaced at Takealot’s expense if the product is found to be defective or faulty, or unsuitable for the purpose generally intended.

If the product is found NOT to be defective or damaged, you will NOT be entitled to any replacement or credit, but will instead be liable for the costs incurred in having such a product returned to Takealot, and then redelivered to you.

The following will NOT be regarded as defects and will NOT entitle you to any replacement or credit under the above 7-day drop-and-collect replacement promise, or the 6-month replacement warranty: faults resulting from normal wear and tear; damage arising from incorrect usage of the product.

Certain products may come with a supplier’s warranty in excess of Takealot’s 6-month replacement warranty. If so, this will be stated in the product listing on the site. If the product you received is found to be damaged or defective, and it is within the supplier warranty period, we’ll replace the product at our expense, or process an account credit if a replacement product is not available.

TakeAlot takes full responsibility for the items they sell, Wootware defers that to the manufacturer. I don't blame them for that because that's pretty much the case with all the smaller online retailers. It simply forms the basis for my future purchasing decisions. TakeAlot also has much higher standards of what is and isn't acceptable. Last week I complained on their FB page because their delivery staff or warehouse staff damaged my Witcher 3 box and their first response was to offer me another copy, which I declined.

Don't get me wrong, I like Wootware and their staff is very knowledgeable/helpful. I built my entire gaming PC out of their shop last year. But next time I'd rather pay the R150 more from TakeAlot, knowing that their returns policy by default ensures I get an immediate exchange for 6 months after purchase if the product is faulty, instead of forcing me to sit through the lengthy RMA process. The manufacturer assessors are just too full of crap for anyone to subject their customers to their whims.

All the best to Wootware and thanks for the excellent service and willingness to go the extra mile in this case.

Ironically enough, I've got a LG DVD drive that I frequently have to use a paperclip to open, because the drive tray doesn't always open when I hit the eject button. Luckily I rarely use physical media.

Wootware doesn't seem to be the issue. LG however does. I was undecided whether my next drive purchase should be with them. This has just affirmed they haven't sorted out their design and quality issues and I won't be and neither would my next screen purchase.

Bingo. No issue with Wootware and their staff. I'm simply going to go to the retailer with the more favorable returns policy in future.

That's fine, he's been offered a full refund, he's still not entirely satisfied as he's still experiencing bleed but he is not gonna send it back & get his refund, in two weeks time after his exams are done he will chuck his pom-poms out of the cot once more & do his usual drama queen schite which he is known for. I have zero sympathy for his cause.

Listen, you have an offer to return the unit (regardless of before & after correspondence), it is not living up to your expectations so just return the fscking thing, get your money back and buy something else. But no, I'm gonna keep it & live with and most likely biatch about it on a weekly basis until I flog it on gumtree. Sorry it just sounds daft to me.

Go plough yourself, ponder.

I pointed out that you insulted me based on your ignorance of the rest of the thread and the private correspondence between me and Chris, and now you want to throw a hissy fit and attack my character.

If that happens, then by all means please do point it out. Until then, STFU and GTFO.

You didn't even bother reading the rest of the thread. The previous one was bad enough that it cause me eye strain after prolonged use. This one is livable. Considering I can't get another decent monitor in this price range, I'll stick with it for now and buy a 27" in December, when I can afford to it. Not that it's any of your business, but seeing as you felt the need to throw a hissy fit about me...

More drama.

Then maybe STFU, you stupid tit? You expect to attack my character and I must just keep quiet?

The issue between me and Wootware is resolved, now you want to come throw in your 2c too. You weren't even part of the original discussion. You just came in for the sake of insulting me.
