Sentech modem hangs on Linux with USB

Nic, try the 0.4 driver. I've been having pretty decent joy from it. Resetting your machine will indeed drop the DTR as the USB bus get's reset. BTW, do you have the code for the supposed modified version that Greg did for Ubuntu?

I've been digging high and low, on the Ubuntu site and I can't seem to find a copy of the code anywhere, never mind any reference to it.

Would have been nice if they'd had the common courtesy of at least mailing me.

I'm not having any joy with the 0.4 driver - I just get endless:

-- write failed: Operation not permitted

entries in the log. If I compile in the 0.2 driver again, all works fine except for the roaming problem again. I'm doing just a 'make modules' and 'make modules_install' - must I recompile the whole kernel? What's causes that error?

I also can't use the shutdown script because this box is also a file server, and because for some reason Sarge will not shut down using 'reboot'. If I use 'reboot -r' it works, otherwise it hangs just before shutting down. The BIOS settings look fine. I can't use -r though, I don't want to lose files.

So there we are. Today I tried upgrading the drivers, but the client had removed the windows Sentech drivers and couldn't find the disk - so it was a huge waste of time.

Without mentioning the ongoing Sentech network badness, I'm pushing for ADSL.

Sorry if this sounds sarcastic : Try kernel.org. drivers/usb/serial/ipw.c or something.

It was in the stock standard 2.6.11, perhaps even much earlier and hopefully still in 2.6.13/4

On which kernel version (and which distro) is the 0.4 driver known to work? We have spent a good deal of two days trying to get it to work in Sarge, but can never write to the device once the device is created (write failed: Operation not permitted). The 0.2 and 0.3 drivers work fine... but the modem roams sometimes several times a day. Entering '+++' in mimicom when talking to the modem always makes it hang.

Which firmware should we be using?
