I agree that the Tripartite Alliance will inevitably break up, though I think that that time is still some way off. It won't happen before the next national elections (2009ish).
I would love to see an organised opposition party, perhaps even the DA under Seremane. That too, has not yet happened.
I have none. I will wait and see what happens there, I don't really care though, as I am not keen on the DA anyway.
It might happen end of this year. The ANC is currently its own worst enemy, with T-Bone in charge nobody knows where they stand anymore.
It might too! In any case, if the Tripartheid alliance splits, then the ANC will relinquish at least some of its power, maybe even a 3rd?, which means more interesting times in parliament, and possibly more accountability required from the ANC...

To put it very clear to you, no!!!I do not think that all DA voters are racists, however, constituents (not only DA constituents for that matter) tend to vote along racial lines, please read a study by Maano Ramutsindela at www.hsrcpress.ac.za/download.asp?filename=2025_04 public_Attitudes_in_Contemporary_SA.pdf for some academic perspective, I stated that this could be an impediment to his standing. What is confusing?

Can't disagree. I am sure the breakup will not happen before the next election. But that it will happen is inevitable.
One of the "glues" that keep them together is Madiba. The same as when the whites were either SAP or NAP. Nothing in between. Now the blacks vote black, spelled ANC.
With Madiba gone somebody with mass support will have to rise from the black community. Is there such a body?
What has changed in most of our lives the last 12 years? The people will start voting for what will benefit them and not just skin colour or for the sake of loyalty.
The lack of service delivery get blamed on a shortage of skills. Why is there a shortage of skills? Lack of whiteman's magic? to reflect the demography of the country? Gravy train? Corruption? Racism? BEE? AA?
Seramane is respected in the black community. He is not the leader of the DA.
Yet. But he might just be the leader of a group of achievers who wants to better the country for all.

IMO the DA and their supporters should give Seramane a chance. Look at Hellen Zille before she got the position as mayor of Cape Town she was also relatively unknown to most people who are now praising her work.
The DA aren't the ones selling "face time" to businesses. The ANC leadership is blatantly corrupt and in the pocket of big business. You have your parties mixed, friend.
I think loyality, colour of skin has a huge part to play, and will continue to do so.
Many ANC supporters were born to vote for ANC, and will never change. Thats fine, thats who they are.
There will be a slow change in voting, whereas people will begin to choose on the deliverence rather than on the current one nation party.
I also agree that the ANC will definately break-up. There are just too many divergent view points and actually approaches to life and politics, and some class clashes, that will never converge.
However, if though I believe Seremane to be capable, i doubt if he is the leader to lead us to race-free elections. But, I think he can take the DA a step closer to mass appeal and thus lead the way to the rebuilding of the DA as a party for all and a credible opposition.
Whether the DA can rule better than the ANC, I do not know, and do not believe it, as politicians regardless of race are self-serving mostly useless individuals in my view. However, we need a good opposition.
In my view getting a popular appeal is not difficult. Go for the voters basic instincts. Look what the ANC and the popular press did for Zuma by persecuting him, the masses quickly identified with him, they made him a champion of the downtrodden from obscurity in a very short period.
May be he can have a campaign that brings it forward that he speaks for South Africa, not black nor white South Africa. May be it might work.

people tend to vote for the party they can identify with. Most people in KwaZuluNatal used to vote for the IFP. Because they identified with the traditional values it stood for. However, there's been a steady shift from the IFP to the ANC. The ANC has done their bit in terms of cleaning up it's image from the legacy of the UDF that was doing battle with the IFP in the 80's. It takes some deliberate effort to win over voters to your side. I think this is the DA's chance to lure over some disillussioned ANC supporters. Voting Seremane to power would prove that the DA is committed to the betterment of all South Africans not just a minority whites.

Bageloo, I see your point. Would it be idealistic to believe that voting the best candidate in, regardless of race, would in the long term better prove the DA as a party for all races? Surely, as a country, that is what we are ultimately striving for, and if the DA can prove that it is more competent at doing a job than the ANC, surely it will attract many black voters.
On the subject of the DA being lilly white, it needs to be remembered that the DA has more black voters than any of the other opposition parties (even if it is as a % more white). I'm afraid I can't source this, as I read it in the comment section of the Cape Times about a week ago.

The DA does not see race as important. Unlike the ANC, for example, who would never have Trevor Manuel as President because he is the wrong colour.

The reason Seremane is with the DA is related to his past. He was a PAC organiser and was imprisoned on Robben Island. His brother was interned in the "Quatro" ANC death camp, where he died. The ANC refuses to tell him what happened to him.
