Salutations sudo -i's,

I've been preying around on my clientzone at Afrihost and found the most awesome server names they use for their servers! But, that's side-news for now. We shall find out who is the holy name-giver there later.

I'm in the mood to throw a bunch of Linux servers together, and was wondering on what to name them all...

At home I'm using the Radioactive Elements, Noble Gases and Halo-Alkanes groups, and at work I'm using anything to do with Electricity (terms, innovators, etc.)

Any suggestions on a new naming convention? I was thinking ZA Astronomy, such as "SALT", "ProxCen", "McClean", "Glass", "Gill", etc..... (long enough list for my needs)

Stay cool and keep on saving end-users' lives with those passwd commands.:D

I use fictional planets on my one server. Eg. Persephone, Dakara, Hoth, etc. Plenty of those to go around too.

I go boring, and call mine based on country location + number these days.
eg usa1..usa4 or china1..7

Only have several or so to manage though, and I mostly use ansible to push stuff, so its not too much hassle either.
Back when I had 2 or 3 servers it was function related, eg mail. mysql. newsletters. web.

I did think about using simpsons characters at one point though, eg bart, marge, homer ... but it never took off as staff couldn't get their heads around those foreign sounding things.

I'm boring ;)

I used dog breeds before. Also boring but who really cares anyway...

So obviously you are Thor. Who is Odin?

I only got one server to my name. Although that might change in the coming weeks.

So thanks for the tips. Will see what I call mine in future.

Company I work for uses comic book cities like Gotham and Metropolis. We have only four and not sure what the other two are named.

I use constellation/astronomy/celestial object names
Pegasus
Magnetar
Pulsar
Vega
Orion
etc.

You can use planets too, if you don't mind inserting a stick into Uranus every so often
