Service Pack 3 FTL.

Oh yes I can access the sites using those dns numbers like if I type those into the address field. So... what do I need to do exactly to fix this, so I can print out the instructiona, install sp3, and then fix it?

I forgot the lovely forumites name which gave me the fix, but he posted it in the ADSL section recently.

Here you go:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953761

You just download the hotfix from the top link, it will be sent via email.

Not, not a hotfix... Do the following:

My Computer -> Right click "Network places" -> Properties

A new explorer window will open listing your network connections. Right click the one you use to connect to your router -> Properties

A dialog will open. There will be a list in the middle somewhere (scrollable list) where you will see "TCP/IP". Select "TCP/IP" and click "Properties".

Yet another dialog will open. Automatic settings should be selected. For the DNS settings at the bottom of the first tab, you should be able to select "Manually specify DNS".

Make it 10.0.0.2

Ignore the secondary servers.

Your Internet should be working again.

You could also contact your ISP to get their specific DNS servers and use those as your Primary and Secondary DNS servers

And I haven't had a single problem with Service Pack 3 on multiple machines

Me neither... but I do strongly suggest installing Internet Explorer 7 and using it a few times to get it registered properly before installing SP3.

It's probably something to do with my computer because not many other people seem to have the same problem as me.

But still, Microsoft should sort it out instead of employing dumbass technicians that tell you it's your isp's fault.

Hows it Microsoft's technicians fault that your computer is stuffed?

If sp3 worked like it was supposed to, I wouldn't have to install hotfixes, and they shouldn't tell my it's my isp's problem.

But you're just trying to flame, so please don't.

NO! its your problem. you cant blame MS for a faulty pc\hardware\buggered up windows because of buggered up drivers or junk freeware.
Just as you cant blame a Linux distro .......(same as above)

clean install "is jou voorland"

Who's trying to flame? Try look the word up.

I can't blame Honda/Toyota/etc because my car was in an accident because I don't know how to drive.

It's not his problem. It's a Microsoft problem that they did not take ALL router's into consideration and the fact remains it's their stuff up.

I've seen this problem on Billion and even the Telkom Mega range, so yes, it is a Microsoft problem.

Thats like saying its Linux's problem for not providing hardware drivers for all hardware?

I did use a clean install... It still did not work...

Why don't they just implement the hotfix into sp3.

When I phoned Microsoft for support they did not tell me to use the hotfix. What's the average computer user gonna do when they install sp3 and their internet does not work anymore?

Its probably not part of Sp3 because it was only detected after Sp3 was released, so it would then be in sp4 (if there is to be one)

Exactly. It is Linux' problem. To reiterate. Why was it working fine in SP2, but not SP3? Did they add some new layer of networking? No, it's an issue they created with SP3. Read the knowledge base article.

How daft are they?

A Windows XP SP3-based client computer assumes that option 43 will always appear at the end of the option list. Therefore, the client does not parse any DHCP options that appear after option 43.

Please
