Service Pack 3 FTL.

why are posts on the forum so delayed lately? you post something when its like the second post or so you read and suddenly you are post #32:confused:

People may view my installation as outdated but it works.
XP + SP1 + Hot fixes.

And the general rule is, don't fix if it ain't broke.

Of course this is while running a Firewall and Anti Virus, the latter of the two I have still yet to find useful as the last virus my network had was in 1998 or thereabouts, when that Chernobyl Virus came out and actually fried the Bios, not the software.

I had the same problem.
If it is the same as mine (which is likely) your router stopped automatically assigning a DNS server address when SP3 was installed. I just changed it to assign it manually to 10.0.0.1 (I think it was that) somewhere in the network settings and it was working again.
Whats your router? Mega 100WR?

+1 same issue, same solution, works perfectly now.

have just formatted my com and connected a router instead of a speed touch modem and can connect to the net fine. however, when i download service pack 2 or 3 i get a message saying page cannot be displayed when i connect to the net. can anyone help? i have ran a diagnostic which is below.

A Windows XP SP3-based client computer assumes that option 43 will always appear at the end of the option list. Therefore, the client does not parse any DHCP options that appear after option 43.

May be this is irrelevant to most, but if I'm a "Joe average" PC user who knows very little on the technical side of computing software, how do I know what this statement means? Option 43, oh right, I remember that! And the option list too, did that in high school - I parsed my DHCP options after breakfast this morning - oh, back to 43...

I would only be able to rely on MS being able to help me out (or Incredible Corruption if I felt like breaking the PC totally). It's the same a trying to read the "comprehensive" MS Help & Support section to try and figure out what's wrong with your PC - you'd never be able to fix it...better off formatting and starting from scratch... :D

never had any problems with SP3... I always install IE7 before SP3... dunno why it works but it always seems to work.

It's probably something to do with my computer because not many other people seem to have the same problem as me.

But still, Microsoft should sort it out instead of employing dumbass technicians that tell you it's your isp's fault.

Typical. Blame Micro$oft for your fckup?

Yes I have read it, and I still maintain that people love blaming M$ for anything that's wrong with their PC.

That's very nice. Thing is I like Microsoft. I love Flight Simulator. I played Age Of Empires 2 to death. I have tried the other OS's and much prefer Windows. I went back to Vista after installing XP. I only use Microsoft Office. I think they are great.

It wasn't my problem. In this case it was Microsoft's fault as I had to install extra things to get SP3 running.

...I smell burnt toast.
