Severe thunderstorms expected in Gauteng

Only damage we got was two chickenwire fences getting flattened due to the mass of hail and grass carried by the water runoff.

Other than that we're fine. Dogs are fine, lamb is running around as usual and everybody's doing well.

Our regular parking spot is to be avoided for now - last time we got stuck in the mud, and I don't want a repeat of that fun time! :D

When I went outside this morning, there were still masses of hail banked up together that haven't melted yet.

We're at the bottom of a hillside, neighbours upwards of us have horses. Rainwater collected all the horse turds, grass and hailstones and dumped these in our yard.

Hail storm damages at least 3,000 homes in Ekurhuleni

JOHANNESBURG - With more weather alerts issued for Gauteng this week, Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gungubele says relief aid is en route to Etwatwa and surrounding townships where at least 3,000 homes have been damaged.

Yesterday’s hail storm also wreaked havoc on a cluster of airport hangers in Springs where up to 15 small aircraft were damaged when the rooves of the zinc structures partially collapsed.

The hail storm has affected thousands of people in Ekurhuleni and the mayor says they are now trying to provide assistance as soon as possible.

This is how it looked in my neighbourhood:

Yeah, honestly Kimberly Road and surrounds are bad news in heavy rain. The drainage around Southdale is piss poor. Your best bet would have been to go up Booysens Road, over Klipriver and then right at the next robot, connect with Eloff Street Extension and make your way into Turfontein that way.

Edit: Just watched the full video. Never mind the above, that being said I know exactly where you live now. On my commute, I regularly use Side Road.

SA Weather Service issues another hailstorm warning for Gauteng

The Weather Service says rainfall is expected to intensify.

Forecaster Bransby Bulo says, “There are active storms in the north, in areas like Warmbaths, the western parts of Limpopo and the eastern parts of the North West province. So, those storms could move into Gauteng and the eastern parts later this afternoon.”

You should thank them for your fertilizing your garden. LOL :D

Yesterday evening's rainstorm after 0830 thereabouts - was also an epic one... hope tonight's storm will be more kinder and gentler...

Last night storm blew my neighbors Solar panels off his roof and into my back garden. Probably 20-30m far. 4 Panels.
