Sexiest Opel EVER!!

What really bothers me though, is just how much of these R300K + cars we see driving around on our roads. That is, what, R5000 - R7000 installments ?

yeah for that money i rather drive my 50k mk1 golf and buy me a house

well thats what i plan on doing until that 300k car is back pocket change lol

R300k I sort of understand. People finance it via their bonds. Hell, I'm 26 tomorrow (Hah, almost forgot), and I've been thinking of picking up a low mileage 125i. It would be a bit wasteful so I've been thinking of a Golf TSI or even the Audi A1 1.4TSI, though I'm not serious about that one, which can be found for a bit over R200k. I see plenty of Golf R's in this neck of the woods though, which is just crazy.

Let's say you take home R25000 every month, which is a proper salary by any standard, if you pay R5000 p/m you are spending 20% of that on a car, that isn't even taking into consideration what your actual disposable income might be. That, to me, is just not right at all.

If you finance it via your bond, you are still not doing yourself any favours to increase your debt by a drastic percentage. You are also going to feel that in your installments as well I am guessing.

And at the end of the day you are dumping so much money, that can be used for so much better things, into a big black bottomless pit.

AHA now we know where all the E-toll money is going to FOAF and contacts...

Exactly, which is why I can't really warrant it. Granted, by pushing it through my bond, I'll be paying less than R5k and other than for that, I'll probably finance it via different means entirely, but it's still crazy. I spoke to a rep once that paid exactly a third of his salary for his A3 2.0T. It's not even that special! People have their priorities all wrong. I'd love a fun car with loads of power, but we're getting abused in SA, hence why I'm looking at closer to R200k.

For me personally 20% of my salary on a car is money well spent :D Look i know in an ideal, rational world its not the wisest decision, but for me, the car i drive plays a HUGE impact on my general mood... For me, my car is my escape and my other child, so for me, splashing on a decent car that makes me happy every time i drive it is not "wasted" money, or money that could be spent on other things... I do however completely understand what you are saying! It also amazes me how many people can afford these cars!

Been checking this one out on the Opel Facebook page for some time now. It is a good looking car and if you keep in mind what the current Astra looks like then they have made a perfect OPC version of it. However in the entire OPC range right now I still think the Insignia is the best looking, but that being said my taste in cars is a little off the wall... my favorite Audi is still the discontinued A2 :p

Will I ever buy one? No. For me personally Opel is supposed to be an affordable German car (unlike the rest) so I'll stick with the standard model and buy them slightly used. Next year we should start seeing glimpses of what the new Corsa mk5 will look like and taking into account the current styling of Opel I'm sure it will be a sexy little car.

I would also like to know exactly how these people can afford such high priced cars? My first car cost 180k. 3 years later my salary has multiplied by 3.5 and i can still only afford a 180k priced car.

My guess is it will look a lot like the new Opel Adam city car - so once real pictures of that one gets out we'll see what Opel designers are playing with these days. Corsa mk5 is going to be a big thing for Opel if they want to turn around their profitlessness.

Thing is, you could afford a better car, but your priorities have probably changed. I am in the same situation. I bought a car for 120k 3 years ago, i am earning 2.2 times more. I just bought a second hand car for 160k...

thing is, i would rather spend more on my bond etc.

I would love to drive this OPC, but 400k for an opel, which is FWD, seems a little excessive to me. With petrol and insurance already costing me what it is, buying this car, on top of payments is likely to cost 2k more with just insurance and petrol.

That little Adam looks like it could potentially sell well down here, considering how many compact hatches are out on the road at the moment! So is this "Adam" the new mini Corsa? Do you think the Mk5 Corsa will be bigger than the current models?

Priorities have changed yes. But so has the cost of owning and operating cars at even more alarming rates. To drive a better quality car in my 2nd year of working than in my 5th is just carazy

Lol, my cars have just got progressively worse since my 1st car for these exact reasons :( KILLS ME!
