Hi guys,

When I signed up for VPN I was pretty sure there was nothing about the account only giving you one login.. I look for this kind of stuff as I have two computers on my home network. I now see that there is a #5 on the promotion site referring to only one connection being allowed. I phoned up openweb (on hold for an hour.. almost as bad as telkom..) and was told they couldn't do anything about it, and that they had another query about it on that same day (about a week ago) and that they would "look into it". I was also promised instructions on how to share the VPN connection but never got any.

My question is as follows:

Is it possible to share the one VPN connection between my two computers?
I shall call my computers 1 and 2 for ease of understanding. I am running winXP on both machines, standard network cables connected from both computers to the adsl router.

I have dialed into the VPN on computer 1 after connecting the local account, then shared it. computer 1's internet works fine. I then set the default gateway on computer 2 as the IP of computer 1. Computer 2 shows the shared VPN as an internet gateway (in network connections) once it is connected to the local account. No dice, it shows as connected but international websites still don't work. The VPN works fine from computer 1, or even computer 2 if I connect that computer directly.

Can anyone help?? I've been trawling through XP ICS tutorials for days and trying everything I can think of. Nothing has worked thus far. I have the standard cheap-o telkom router, no fancy netgear routers that support vpn sharing within the router.

Thanks

Jim

Signed up in 2005 and not a single post Oo Anyways, yes it should be possible but I don't have time to explain now. If no one has responded I'll try help.

I normally just read :P Thanks, I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me some direction here.

  1. Ensure that Internet connection sharing is enabled on the VPN connection
  2. Disable the DHCP functionality on your ADSL Router, and any other routers.
  3. Set the other machines to obtain an IP address automatically.
  4. Confirm that they have picked up the IP Address of your Dialed up machine as the Gateway and DSN Server.

Never had to do this before, but that should work. :p

Thank you carudden; unfortunately it still doesn't work...

Computer 2 sees the connected shared VPN connection in network places, yet the internet still doesn't connect, even if I connect the local connectionon that computer while the shared connection is active..

I don't know what to do :(

Double-check the dns settings.

ICS is a piece of k@k imo. If it does work then its mainly luck based.

In the past the only times when it did work there was a usb stick involved and the wizard. Never had any luck with manual configuration.

And if it does work then certain types of non-HTTP things don't go through it.
