Sharks Supporters Thread ver. 2008

Hey guys, I thought this was a bloody Sharks supporters thread, why the hell are you are harping on about Schalk?!?!?!!?

Or is this the usual myADSL problem of topics quickly being derailed at every attempt?

Please take this to a Schalk fan club thread or Stormers thread!

Where is the talk of Michalak? Where is the talk of "Francois Pienaar" now playing for the Sharks? The possibility of John Smit returning?

SHARKS FOREVER!!

Want to start a thread along the lines of guess the name of the Sharks player who was actually born in Natal and win a stormers jersey..... but that would just be trolling!

Ahhh now that was sweet seeing the Sharks clap the Bulls! I wonder when the Bulls will learn that the modern game calls for a little finesse and not just brutality.

And as for JP Nel, the less said the better. When is he actually going to get a proper ban? He is a Brian Lima clone and is not needed in the game. The positive of this is that both he and Jaco Engels have been cited so we hopefully will have some bans coming their way.

Michalak has a great rugby brain....

And toffee your post merely reeeks of sour grapes. Sorry to tell you but rugby is now a professional sport... where the individual is born has nothing to do with their allegiance. They choose a team based on what the team offers them.... and of course the spirit and feel of the team. Now if your union has no money to buy decent players, then that is not the fault of us Sharks fans. Maybe if you guys did well you might find you'd have more money at your disposal!! You find most sponsors and fans do not like throwing their money at a bottom of the table team.

You are right, I was pulling the old leg, in fact just a little jealous. I believe you guys have the best coach in SA. When he was ending his playing career I was invited to his benefit evening, not just a good rugby player but a great guy. Your administrators also seem to get the balance right. We have jerks running ours. Glad you beat the bulls( I cannot handle the bulls centre Nel, always plays the man, unfortunately he also hails from W/Cape). I think your strength is in your loosies. With the faster game they have become key and to have fast loosies like Kankowski, Daniels and Botes as well as a few of the bump and grinders like AJ Venter, that is where you will win games. The coach needs to have a word with Steyn, he looks like he is trying too hard and also to do something special every time he gets the ball. He needs to relax and just play his game.

We have two top class Natal youngsters playing in the Cape, Peter Grant (future SA flyhalf) and Robbie Diack. Dont know why our coach did not originaly play Diack, he is the classic no 8.

The fact is the Sharks will be carrying all of SA hopes in the S14.

What a match... was luverly...

Also hearing the Sharks supporters singing Ole Ole Ole and drowning out the Bulls supporters was just brilliant.

Granted the rugby was VERY scrappy, but honestly who cares... We won!... w00t..

What a wonderful win... Only shame is they (bulls) needed a ref ( Steve Welsh) again to miss knock on's to win... LMAO

Well done SHARKS:D

I believe the Sharks are playing with 2 fetchers tonight, AJ has not yet recovered. Great plan. Also Albert VD Berg is in for the retired Ackerman. Good tactics against the speedy Blues. Just a little worried about the lock depth at Sharks, you need tough in your face locks against some of the NZ teams. VD Berg does not fit thee profile nd if Muller gets injured there may be some problems in the pack for the Sharks. Maybe AJ at lock going forward?

You mean tomorrow?

Yeah, it is going to be interesting. The loosies are Kankowski, Daniels and Botes... that is a lot of pace off the back! And Tereblanche is in for Ndungane.

Another huge bonus is that Bismarck is back from injury, so together with Van Den Berg that will be a big boost for our lineouts. Not too worried about lock depth as Sykes is on the bench and he is not bad at all.

Why don't we bloody organise the schedule so these foreigners need to play in Durban at 3pm.... give us more homeground advantage with the heat!

Starting to get the butt-clamps coz this game is gonna be HUGE and it's so close now. Lol, I think I like rugby too much.

Thanks LancelotSA. :) Good luck against the Blues. It should be an exciting game!

You can never like rugby to much...Especially if your a sharks supporter!!
SHARKS FTW!!!:D:D:D

Some stats to whet the appetite....

On Saturday the Sharks take on The Blues at The Absa Stadium Durban in a top of the table Vodacom Super 14 clash, kick-off is scheduled for 7.10pm.

The pair last met in Durban in last year’s Super 14 semi-final, with the Sharks running out fairly comprehensive 34-18 victors, setting themselves up for a home final.

The teams had clashed in the earlier rounds in Albany, New Zealand, and again the Sharks came out winners, scoring a narrow 32-25 victory.

The Sharks are currently lying in third place with 13 points, while the Blues are on top with maximum points (15) and the visitors will look to retain their unbeaten record end their South African tour on a high.

The Blues are in imperious form and certainly know their way to the tryline, averaging six tries a match in their opening three games. They have scored a bonus point in each of their three games and come to Durban with a fantastic pedigree and in top form.

The Sharks have managed just six tries, scoring their first bonus point against the Bulls last week and have adopted fairly conservative tactics which have won them games given the conditions, albeit not in an open, running style of rugby.

With the weatherman predicting partly cloudy and humid temperatures approaching 30°C and similar conditions for the following few days, there is little chance of rain. Certainly, the humidity will play a role though, and the big question is:, will the Blues have one eye on the match and the other on the plane back home?

Head-to-Head:

Bismarck du Plessis vs Keven Mealamu

With the fiery hooker cleared to play, the Sharks front row has a mean look about it and Bismarck du Plessis, understudy to Springbok and Sharks captain John Smit for the past few years, now has the opportunity to shine in the limelight.

Big, strong and athletic, Bismarck is one of the taller hookers around, but with a huge work ethic and work rate, especially in the loose. Add to this his accomplished handling of the basics and you have an extremely valuable player who’s presence in this game will be enormous.

His counterpart is the small, nuggety Mealamu, someone equally adept in the loose phases and someone who revels in open play.

The matching up of these two players should produce an element of excitement as they tackle each other in their own mini battles during the match.
