Sharks Supporters Thread ver. 2008

Yip! With you on that one... all the trash talk earlier today about them having no chance of getting four tries and even battling to beat the Chiefs... ha ha ha how wrong those people were! But we will not gloat too much as we are Sharks fans and we are above stooping that low!! ha ha ha ha

+1 :D

Congrats Sharks. You saved your best game of the season so far to the last. Going to say something that not all will agree with. Your backline played well because Steyn did not play. he is a talented youngster but tries to be the star. If you play him it has to be at fullback. Then Bismark, we have to have him as starting hooker in the Trinations. John Smit is good but does not have the mobility or mongrel in him. Bismark can scrum and play in the loose. Would like to see Bismark start and Britz to come on for last 20.

Problem with your last recommendation is that they have just announced the Springbok training squad and John Smit was named as captain. I think that is the biggest problem, who would you have captain the game? You saw the importance of that before when a great player like Matfield as captain just did not give the Boks the same feel when John was injured....

It may be silly but at international level it seems most teams choose an influential captain first....

There are a few, Juan Smith, Jean, and if you look in your backyard Muller captained the boks in some of tri nations games. Personaly I did not think Smit was the best hooker in SA before the world cup and would not sat his captaincy is any better than Muller. I do acknowledge tour point around him being influential. But my opinion is that Bismark will be the incumbent come next worls cup. I heard that Smit wanted to come back to the Sharks but Bismark threatened to leave. If I was Sharks boss I would look to the future.

Problem is Juan Smith too is not a certainty for the Boks with the abundance of loose forwards we have in this country. Muller would also not get a look in too often with the likes of Victor and Bakkies around. Jean is a possibility but he is injury prone and also not a certainty for every Bok game.

We will see. I have always thought highly of Juan. He was the best SA loose forward at WC.I just hope that the training squad is trying to be inclusive because there are some players on the list not good enough to be in S14 never mind international.

Yeah I know... who the hell is Ismael Dollie!! :) But as they were at lengths to mention it is only a training squad so it would be good if some of these were players of the future they were trying to give exposure to the Springbok set up. More than half the backs are players of colour too, with far fewer in the forwards though.

I watched Dollie when he played for SACS. Talented but too lightweight. He played Boland last tear and is in WP Vodacom team.

Ahh it's good to wake up knowing we get to watch our team at least once more this season in the Super 14!:)

congrats sharks, you guys played the better game,i'm happy to see that at least one SA team made it in,and the way the stormers messed up against the lions you guys deserved to go through, hope you had a rough rough night of celebration;)

and lol all you ever want is to see your team play again

WE ARE BLACK, WE ARE WHITE, WE ARE WE ARE DYNAMITE!!!!

Yeah baby! What a game. Was absolutely unbelievable. The Sharks played such a good game and really came to the party when it counted! I couldnt single out just one player for their performance as it was such a good team performance! They could have destroyed any team the way they played last night! I am such a proud Sharks supporter!

Referee setback for Sharks
19/05/2008 12:57

Durban - The Sharks received an unpleasant setback to their preparations for their Super 14 semi-final against the Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday with the naming of Bryce Lawrence as referee.

The Sharks were most displeased with the performance of New Zealand's Lawrence when he handled their match against the Brumbies in Round 10 in Canberra in April.

In that match the Sharks led 13-0 and 18-7 at half-time before going down 27-21 as they fell foul of Lawrence's whistle.

Lawrence yellow-carded Ryan Kankowski as well as Francois Steyn, somewhat unfairly, in the second half and there was great dissatisfaction in the Sharks' camp that the Brumbies had been allowed to get away with infractions they were blown for - especially at the breakdown.

Australia's Stuart Dickinson has been appointed to take charge of the other playoff between the Crusaders and the Hurricanes in Christchurch.

The full list of appointments is as follows:

Crusaders vs Hurricanes, Christchurch:
Referee: Stuart Dickinson
Assistant Referee 1: Matt Goddard
Assistant Referee 2: Paul Marks
Television Match Official: Geoff Acton.

Waratahs vs Sharks, Sydney:
Referee: Bryce Lawrence
Assistant Referee 1: Lyndon Bray
Assistant Referee 2: Kelvin Deaker
Television Match Official: Glenn Newman

So much for all the talk that refs get 'punished' when they fsck up hey .......... what was it " brycie, don't be naughty again ok or we will get crosser" ....... fsckin tossers

I can't believe that useless cheating bastard is the ref.

I would love to find out why SARU is silent while our S14 teams are cheated year after year by sub-standard Aussie and NZ refs.

Well with all this talk about the ref, I think it is time for some good news... Yes it may just be pre match psychological talk but the Waratahs seem weary of the Beast and Kankowski!

Waratahs wary of Sharks 'Beast'

The Waratahs are wary of Sharks player "The Beast" and the best South African scrum in the Super 14 rugby competition, as they prepare for Saturday's semi-final showdown with the Sharks.

The Waratahs have focused heavily on their scrum this year in training and it has won the mcuh praise.

However, Waratahs and Australia prop Al Baxter says that he is under no illusions about the task facing the Waratahs pack at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday.

Baxter says that the compliments for the Waratahs' pack were nice he took them with a grain of salt and pointed out that their form this year was the fruition of plenty of hard work throughout the season.

"But I think this will be the real test this weekend, because these guys I think are the best South African scrum and have been scrummaging really well," Baxter told FoxSports.

Baxter rates Zimbabwean-born prop Beast Mtawarira as "an excellent front rower" and noted the 22-year-old former flanker "took apart the Chiefs' scrum" last week.

"So it's going to be tough this weekend against the Beast," Baxter said.

"He's very very strong, they've got an excellent pack and an excellent front row and I think he might be the only non-Springbok in their 22 and I think that's because he's Zimbabwean.

"He's playing really well, the rest of the front row is playing really well, it's going to be a challenge both technique and strength."

Beast's perfomances have won him favour with the Sharks fans in Durban and whenever he touches the ball the crowd can be heard in union shouting "Beast" in deep throated voice.

Another player that is concerning the Waratahs is Ryan Kankowski who has been in excellent form this year and he is set to go up against another form No. 8. in Wycliff Palu who is the Waratahs leading try scorer with five.

"He (Kankowski) is really skilful and really quick, hopefully he's out there in the backs trying to go round them instead of trying to make me look bad," Palu joked.

Palu quipped that he had spent too much time out on the wing this season and attributed his form this year to his weight loss and his first injury free season in recent memory.

Waratahs halfback Luke Burgess felt his backline was still to unleash its best form this year and was hoping it would happen this weekend.

"I don't think we've played to our full potential, we've been close a couple of times but it hasn't come together yet," Burgess said.

"The theory is that we just keep concentrating on the basics and hopefully the experience we've gained over the Super 14 season will help us improve."

He also added that his own combination with five-eighth Kurtley Beale was "coming along slowly" and was wary of the Sharks pair of halves Rory Kockott and Ruan Piennar.
Palu suggested that he wouldn't mind the NSWRU board reversing its decision to look for a new coach as McKenzie had played a big part in his career and he enjoyed playing under him.

It may be a good thing, as he wouldn't want to do it 2 games in a row.
May favour the Sharks this time.

Only problem is I heard he did it again to one of the teams over this past weekend. It's like supersport-zone says ...... he's a fsck up and he gets a semi as a reward ...... messed up man

The excitement is building!! :)

With bonus-point wins essential in the final two rounds, the Sharks cast off their cloak of conservatism and torched their opponents with some razzle dazzle rugby.

"Our last two games have been must win five-pointers, it seems this side just plays better under pressure," Muller said.

"We'll probably have a bit more of a conservative outlook to the game (on Saturday), but when it's on, we're definitely going to have a go."

The Springboks lock was philosophical about playing in Sydney after the Sharks clinched their semi-final spot in the very last round robin match of the competition. "I think we were really lucky, playing the last game of the weekend.

"Two hours before we played, we knew exactly what we had to do to get into the semi-finals, I think that's a huge bonus for any side," Muller said.

"A 14-hour flight over here and the time change is not easy, but you could just see the excitement today at training once again. "We've got a second bite of the cherry.

"Two weeks ago everybody said we were out of it and we're not going to make it and then two five point wins got us in to the semi-final so the guys are really excited and the buzz at training was unbelievable."

BJ Botha unlikely to play. Frans Steyn should be fit. Tongan World Cup star Epi Taione may be back after serving his suspension!
