Tense stuff!!! Well done Sharkies!!!! Tim Whitehead was superb today as was Keegan and Craig Burden. Line outs were shocking though. Don't think we can blame the hookers anymore...

Didn't see the game but pleased with the result. One thing we shouldn't forget is that we've only had 2 home games so far. Still a way to go.

Scrum also looked a wee bit vulnerable at times. Just chuffed though we could win this game :)

8 left in SA for you guys. 7 or 6 at home iirc.

I'm happy about that... The tour didn't go as well as it could've but we ended on a high note.

Honestly I'm still not entirely sold on Burden as a hooker though. Am I happy we have him? Sure! He either needs to be given a lot more first class game time or not used as a hooker IMO though. I'd hope for the game time as we need someone as solid as Bis when he's not available.

I missed the live game and really though when I watched it I'd see some horrendous reffing (there were some shocking calls), but overall it was a nice game to watch. Our backline seems to have regained some structure with Lambie's return.

What do you make of this?

Matfield for the Sharks?
Matfield for the Sharks? It sounds like an April Fool’s joke but it is not inconceivable. It is a concrete truth that Heyneke Meyer has asked the 34-year-old to come out of retirement and captain the Boks in the interim, at least for the 12 Tests ahead of the Boks this year.

Matfield has said that he is “thinking about it” and if he does dust off his boots, he will need game time ahead of the series against England in June, and the informed speculation is that the Sharks and the Cheetahs are the leading contenders to be offered Matfield’s services. Why? They are competitive teams that are short of experienced locks.

Personally I wouldn't mind him as a coach - but as a player? At his age? I'm not so sure about this at all.

I've been saying for ages now that our lineout issues do not stem from the hooker position - it is our locks. Victor as player/coach would be an exceptional addition to the team...

Lol, that must have been hard to say?

But I agree, he could only help the sharks lineout situation atm.

//admits that it was maybe not all Bismarck's fault :p:D

Nah, not difficult at all. He's not a Bulls player at the moment is he? That would be like calling Butch James a Sharks player. :p :D

Yeah I feel like I've been a lone voice defending Bismarck's lineouts. Sure he has had the odd skew throw but to be honest the jumping has been an absolute shambles and some of the calls have been terrible...

Not alone ;) It's been my sentiment as well. I feel it was driven home a little more by the fact that Burden suffered with a little of the same. Surely two guys can't both be that far off with calls?

As for Victor, as a lock in the lineout, I think he'd still show a lot of people a lot of things. As a player package though, I think he retired at the right time.

Maybe Bismarck just thinks that his locks are taller than they really are :p

Of course. And Keagan Daniels has been one of the guilty parties here. I rate him as a player but definitely not as a captain nor the defacto lineout caller...

As opposed to playing him at full back? :D

I think he's still got another two years of decent rugby left in him. I'm not sold on him captaining the Boks though...

That settles it. We need Victor...

Agree'd. He runs witha purpose and is far from afraid of contact!

Haha :D You know what I meant. As opposed to his general play, as a lock (:p), outside of lineouts...

Perhaps whatever provincial team he plays for will be the deciding factor there? If all he's good for is jumping, maybe he'll just be a coach :D

That settles it. We need Victor...

As a hooker??? :D

I agree with DJ that Victor has another year or two left if managed right but I also do not think he is the right person to lead the Boks.

So what do you guys feel your chances are to beat the Chiefs this weekend?

We're so unpredictable this year there is no telling to be honest. Therefore I reckon we have a 90% chance of winning...

Haha. I think that the sharks might surprise but the Chiefs are on a roll and if the sharks take a "nap" for 10-20 mins in the game the Chiefs will run them off their feet.

That being said, the sharks might just be a tad better off because of being home and getting in their Curry McFlurry fix.

Who should be leading the Boks? My pick would be Josh Strauss. :o

Sharks. Tough game, but first home game and next weekend being a bye, they're likely to give the Chiefs hell! :D

I'd go with this ;)

I hope our first time tackling works this week. The Chiefs players love to pop the ball while in a tackle so our defence will need to stay on top of them.

I think the game will be won by the team with the better backline.

Then I have bad news for the sharks :p:D
