shaving razors

Used to Gillette 5 blade then I tried out bic 5 blade. Can't tell the difference and at R50 for 2 I'm happy.

I have been using a cheap and cheerful Lion Safety razor from Checkers. The razor handle and 5 blades cost me R15 last time I bought. Blades last about a month each.

I have a better experience shaving with this than a the (much) more expensive branded razors with their <insert marketing slang term for razor blade> razors. No more shaving rash...

Does using a more expensive handle make that much of a difference for the guys using the Fatip?

The difference is like black and white and UHD tv watching.

Edit: I wont advise just switching over to a fatip grande as it is a very aggressive razor.

I switched to these cheap BIC disposable razors. Much easier and cheaper IMO.

Tbh the cheapies wont work for everyone.

I don't use shaving gel and another friend finds that insane since he has to.

YMMV

Excuse the noob but what is meant by "aggressive"? Does it wake me up in the middle of the night threatening me if I don't shave the following morning?

Teach me master! Coz I really can't afford R450 for blades anymore :(

Cheaper at checkers by far.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

Theres less of a "guard" to guard against cuts so it shaves closer, much much closer!

The fatip grande is a bit heavier as it's chrome plated brass. The big difference is the head. It has a open comb design which means wide spaced tangs with a very exposed edge of the actual razor blade. The lion if you look carefully has what is called a safety bar, this still allows for a close shave but is more forgiving. Had a few nicks with the fatip but small and about par for a std razor. I'm currently trying the Gillete 7'oclock blades which are a lot sharper than the Lions, so being a bit more careful too.

Also get yourself a alum stone and remember the golden rule, hot water when shaving/soaking and cold water to wash off. I wash off cold, rub the alum all over to disinfect and held any spots and then rub nivea shave balm to close off. Skin and face look extremely good and folks are saying I look a LOT younger with it. Part of that is a recent diet but the alum and shaving I think also helps tighten the skin.

Thanks that clears things up. Might keep a baseball bat close just in case. :p
It's worth a shot I think. Won't break the bank to give it a go if it is too aggressive for me I can always go back to my cheapie.

I recently swapped blades and have noticed quite a major difference there. The local Clicks had Super Max blades and they are definitely much better than the Lion ones. I think maybe some experimentation is in order. Maybe something like this just to get a feel. I will have blades for years though.

River valley trading has a blade sample pack with lots of diff manufacturers. Might be worth investigating, I was going to try the supermax after the Gillette.

*edit* lol I see you found it already.

Another good option is shaving oil, you can buy overpriced shaving specific oils but I have had excellent success with straight avacado oil/hemp oil/macadamia nut oil. Especially if it's a light shave, oil works better than foams, less mess and leaves your face nicely moisturized once you are done.

Highly recommended to use oils even in conjunction with foam if you have shave issues either due to very hard beard or sensitivity.

Just watching the expanse again, I do beleive I see my double edge fatip being used by the under Secretary of the Un in eps 12, first five mins.

I use glycerine soap bars.

Braun Series 5 Foil Shaver.
When I was looking a while back, it was highly recommended by quite a few ppl on here.
You will save in the long run, it works very well.

Dove soap works surprisingly well too, generates a lather (though not as much as proper shaving soap) and moisturises!
