Sheep in the suburbs

please quote the part of the original article where it was implied

I know you are trolling but anyway...

She emphasised that she understood the cultural and religious significance of Eid, but also said that the situation – especially for her business, which was run from her home – made the problem difficult to bear.

“If livestock is going to be kept on the premises for a period of time, then an animal-keeping permit is required from the city’s health unit. If the livestock will be slaughtered for religious purposes, a ritual slaughter permit is then required,” Mthethwa said.

it doesn't say the sheep will be slaughtered on that premises, only that they will be slaughtered, if the stocks of the sheep are changing then surely they must be going to and coming from somewhere if slaughtering only happens on Eid day (why would slaughtering happen before Eid if the purpose is for Eid?)

maybe read up on Eid celebrations and how they are conducted, and then you will see that the implication is that those were distribution points, no one family sacrifices such an amount of sheep on one property, infact it may even be strongly discouraged in the religion

but hey, we see what we want to see, and ignore whats actually written down

that reference suggests that one animal sacrifice is sufficient for one family

on one of the properties there were more than 60 animals, so I guess the article implies there are close to 60 families probably living on that property too

When you are slaughtering a single animal the precautions to manage that blood and such is within the capabilities of most households... go much beyond that number and you will need special things to deal with that volume of blood and internal organs are whatever...

I've seen a property where the neighbour slaughtered 3 sheep and the blood leaked out into the neighbours property, and that is just not acceptable ever.
How did it leak into the neighbours property? When Muslim slaughter, it's over hole, with a plank, and water close by. The blood are all drained in buckets at the end as well.

I don't know just that at the end of the day there was blood seeping into their property

Aah okay, but then those who slaughtered didn't follow proper procedure. Its a pity listening to some comments though, because the meat is generally distributed to the poor and needy, or to organisations that need it.

I would be extremely upset if my neighbour kept 50 sheep next door in a residential area. Even if not slaughtering, it would stink and be noisy. Why should I put up with it?

Yeah. It would smell like bokdrol next door

Are you illiterate or just choose to ignore what racist remark i was pointing out

Others told me that this was a white area so we couldn’t keep the sheep here.”

In white 'culture' it's simply not done and secondly it's illegal. It's not like the person said you can't live here because you're a dirty fscking muslim etc etc and the person was 100% correct in saying you can'k keep sheep there. If a coloured guy said Bishops Lavis is a coloured area we all know exactly what that means and nobody would call him racist for that. If Lenasia for example is a Muslim area and their bylaws say you can keep farm animals and people are happy with it then good for them. Same goes for a rural 'black' area where keeping large amounts of animals close by, I know it's acceptable practice to them so no cry on my part. Cultural differences, laws and all that.

The ironic thing from that article is this, "“I am very disappointed because I try to be as tolerant and accommodating of everyone as I can.”"

How the fsck is he being tolerant? He is the one housing 60 odd farm animals which make a noise, smell, the droppings attract flies and he is contravening several laws but it's his neighbours that are the intolerant ones so let's cry persecuted muslim. Fsck him, his religion he uses as justification, his intolerance of the greater community and all the mofos that support him I reckon.

If you don't you could be labeled a racist and intolerant of muslim and their religion, what you (& the law) deem as unacceptable religious or cultural practices is irrelevant.

It all ultimately ends up being about the Noise Pollution bylaws in the area. If it breaches those then its not acceptable, if it doesn't then there is nothing a person can do even if they're unhappy.

I do understand the mosque thing, I used to live about 4kms from a Mosque in Durban and could constantly hear the call to prayer from the place. For me it wasn't loud enough to be a nuisance but what about the people who lived closer, I can only imagine it must have been nearly deafening.
I don't want to turn this into an issue again, as we already had a topic like this before. But the one Call to prayer which most people found annoying, was the early morning one. Then you have one at 1pm, around 3/4pm and then again at around 6 and 7/8pm. The call to prayer lasts around a minute or 2, so I really can't understand how or why it's such an issue when in total, it's about 10 mins out of a 24 hour day.

The same applies to the slaughtering of sheep, that happens once a year for Eid. In general, most households don't slaughter more than a few sheep. 50 doesn't sound right, and would normally be done on a farm for that amount of sheep, because it would take far too much time. The most I've seen was around 10 to 15.
