Should I get a Polo?

I'm pretty set on the Honda Fit now, definitely blows up my initial budget but it does mean I get pretty fresh warranty and service plan.

You should be able to get a good deal on one. I've seen some big specials because they struggle to sell any of the new ones, I haven't seen one on the road yet.

If you buy new they're really competitively priced compared to the competition (Polo, Fiesta, Mazda 2) and I think better equipped too for the same money.

They're just not an "exciting" car which I think why a lot of potential buyers will get something else.

I’ve not done the research. What is the damage for a Fit in CT?
Between R250k - R300k depending on the specific model. Some Comfort models sitting at R230k but I'm not sure I'd trust those dealers. R300k+ for demos and new.

Also how is the pool of options available?
Pretty slim but not terrible, most are very new low mileage cars but that is to be expected with how new this model is.

Noted, good luck.

Keep us posted please.

Some okes might have been schitposting re: Polo but I chose not to.

I value your end verdict/decision.

I'm not, insurance is too expensive.
Quote with Naked Insurance? With my Polo I had reasonable quotes from Auto & General and Naked.

I’d say just go drive the Polo and make up your mind behind the wheel. There’s a reason journalists praised it for having a big car feel.

Personally I’d recommend getting the Polo with the up-rated 85kW engine, but for your mom that won’t be necessary.

Quote with Discovery (I'm already insured with them)

Insurance is a bit steep, just got the quote back.

R770pm for the Highline spec Polo. I can't tell if this will be the final price, but it's ballpark. No tracker required, although it might bring down the premium but then again it would cost extra for the tracker so probably not worth it.

For reference I'm paying R745pm for my 2017 Mazda CX-5.

This is with Discovery Insure.

What’s the cost you’d be happy to pay? You thought you were gonna pay R400 for a new Polo? Dang, I’d give so much to have a premium under R1000. I pay R2000/month. Life’s fun up in Gauteng I tell ya.

I went to go and look at a Fit over the weekend, didn't test drive it as the one on the showroom floor had already been sold but still was able to sit inside and check it out.

It was the entry level Comfort model, was expecting it to be slightly nicer inside but maybe that's because I'm used to my CX-5. Seats aren't super comfortable, but not terrible.

I'll definitely go for the slightly specced up Elegance or Executive model which have partial leather and full leather seats, that will likely make it feel much nicer inside.

It's also a bit uglier in person, but not offensive. It is super practical though, the magic seats are great and the boot is nice and spacious too.

Might have found the "one" (Honda Fit).

Blown my initial budget to hell and gone but it's the top-specced Executive model and the dealer agreed to a discount on the terms that I do the finance through them (which is fine as long as the rate is decent).

Just getting all the details.

Even slimmer pickings than the Fit and the ones that are available are upwards of R350k

really nice speeced 208!

Looking for a small car for my mom to mainly drive but want something that's safe and versatile too.

I was initially looking at the Grand i10 / Picanto class but it has to be automatic and after looking into those they don't have the greatest autos so I decided to look a segment up.

Currently feel like a 2018 Polo Comfortline or Highline is my best bet, other option in the class is the Fiesta which is a bit cheaper but apparently the transmission isn't anywhere as good as the Polos.

Anything else I should be considering, might pop by the dealer tomorrow to go and look.
Honda Jazz 1.5 auto is an epic car.

Was looking at this one when I made the suggestion. If I needed a small car, this would be top of the list

Before they steal it, they will steal your VW badge. Seen many drive around without it.
