Should I pay my E-Toll account?

I don't get the logic of flipping the e-tag a finger, but then later pay a much higher amount, putting a lot more money into Sanral's pocket?

Sanral would prefer it if everyone did not register. They will of course not admit it openly. But, that being said, someone played a perfect game in winding up Outa and JPSA and even the DA in telling people not to register.

Sanral's income will more than double if road users do not get e-Tags.

I think I should wait for a registered letter before deciding, however this was a business trip and I can claim it back from my employer if I provide proof of payment.

It doesn't seem that SANRAL are obliged to send registered letters.

If you do not accept SANRAL's conditions you will have to pay it in person at an e-toll booth, maybe pay it in cash on 15 January and then claim from your employer.

Why would you be paying any amount at all?

I don't understand.

You will need to go to court and face criminal charges. If you want to pay then, you will get additional fines by the court and a criminal record.

For what? Non-payment of tolls? AARTO decriminalised traffic offences including non-payment of tolls. Stop your fear mongering and misinformation. For someone who claims to be in law, you know ****ing nothing.

Sanral is playing within their legal rights, opposed to what all people, DA, Outa and JPSA said. If you do not pay, you will be bothered by debt collectors at work and home and one day, out of the blue, the Sheriff will serve you with a court order to appear in court. The day this happens, you cannot pay anything anymore. You will need to go to court and face criminal charges. If you want to pay then, you will get additional fines by the court and a criminal record.
This is what's concerning me. I want the system to fail and this can only happen if we all boycott the system. However, I just don't have the time or patience to go to court.

"decriminalisation of traffic violations is only applicable to freeways where Aarto is in operation"

You will not be charged under the Aarto act.

Not paying e-Tolls has not be decriminalized. People will soon find that out the hard way.

Believe me, every person on this forum who told you not to pay already paid theirs or they have not used the roads. They are not prepared to take the heat themselves and want others to do it.

the people who have registered for e-tolls have effectively made it legitimate and any boycott will lead to court action and too much individual drama, I am anti-etolls, but I will pay because I don't want drama. it's nice to protest as a group, but when the brown stuff hits the fan, I will be all alone

You are 110% correct!!!

When we laugh we all laugh together, but when you cry, fu** you, you are on your own....

Yeah, you will be sitting alone in court, we will not be there, we will not contribute towards your expenses, your e-toll fees, nothing... Too bad if you are convicted.

You are an adult and know what is right or wrong.

I really don't care what you JHB people do or don't, get off you high horse, and read what I said and what I made bold. Then go jump on your e-toll bandwagon/gravy train and insult my intelligence.........

Whether you pay or not, remember to ask for proof etc. Use delay tactics to drive their costs up.

The bs spoken here by our local propagandist is unbelievable.

Pay the account, and then register for e-tolls to qualify for great savings and tolls at a reduced rate in future, also a lot more convenient and for peace of mind.

Don't let House's FUD concern you. We have established that House has no ****ing idea what he is talking about, is a liar and is probably on a fairly hefty fee to spread FUD and to shrill on this forum.

Read the actual court decisions and look at the argument advanced by treasury in the Con Court.

Then make a decision on your own volition and using your own faculties on what courses of protest YOU wish to embark on. The system is brought to collapse by many people adopting different courses of action.
