Should I pay my E-Toll account?

Well they have sent me my first bill for 980 bucks. They're dreaming if they think I'm paying that for the privelege to work and pay taxes.

That is all great in theory when they receive that amount. As far as the credit agencies are concerned, cash flow is far more important. Sanral can't guarantee a stable cash-inflow at and above a certain value, whereas they are currently gushing cashing in their outflow. Most private companies would have already folded or under heavy debt to sustain their operations with the sort of cash-flow issues affecting specifically Sanral and e-tolls, excluding other projects and ventures Sanral is involved with.
 
Sheesh a lot of pu$$ie$ ITT. No wonder we continue to get shafted as a Nation.
 
Because of this thread I just paid my outstanding bill and bought an e-tag. I feel really bad for giving in.
 
I go through over 16 gantries every day from centurion to Reitfontein/edenvale. and I am not planning to register for etag.
haven’t received any bill and haven’t paid a cent. I'm probably on thousands already. And those are thousands that they will never get from me.

Just know that you have done the right thing. In 6 months from now when you read about prosecutions you will be happy you did. By the end of the year you will probably see no more articles about the e-Toll system (or they will be very few and far between) as the system will have been accepted by at least 90% of people who will pay their fees. The remainder will find themselves in so much trouble, you will only hear about their suffering and losses on social media....
 
IMO:

1. You used the road
2. Do the upright thing and pay it (and in all honesty it is a world-class road you are paying for)
3. Register, vote in this year's elections

There is an integrity deficit in the world today - do your part even if others don't.

The German auto bahn is a world class Road. The N1 is a Uv lit road.
 
I've never used the toll roads ever since they activated the gantries.

Should I be getting a love letter from them, it'll probably be a cloned number plate, and one which I'll refuse to pay.

To any person who still wonders if he/she should pay or not:

Simply take a look throughout this forum at the reasons MyBB users give why you should NOT pay. Then take a look at the laws involved here and make a decision who you rather would trust.

When you end up on the wrong side of the law, I am sure these users will arm up and defy government and start a real war in order to get you off the hook - or will they?

Think about yourself and your own future. If one MyBB users jumps into a volcano why would you follow?

Lets go along with this:

I fully support the idea of a user pay principle being fully applied to a whole pile of these roads where the market rate for the road would more than comfortably pay for the road leaving the fuel levy to fund infrastructure on other roads BUT then:
[1] etoll road users need to enjoy a proper priority service on the road
[2] SANRAL, ETC etc ... need to pay rent to the people of South Africa for the land on which they are generating a profit
[3] a genuine consumer contract system that is part of the law of the land must apply (or the consumer credit laws need to be repaired) such that a person using a road without a tag is trespassing and must be escorted off the road.
[4] the public servitude on the road needs to be looked at properly
[5] no special guarantees and other entanglements

What reasons have you provided why people should, other than fear-mongering? Your recommendations are that people continue to bend over and take it up the ass from government once again with no pushback, whatsoever. Your approval of ludicrously inefficient government, overspending, probable corruption and hair-brained policies is sickening.
 
I need to go rinse my mouth out because I am about to sound like House, but IF you receive an invoice, then pay (provided there is sufficient proof that this was indeed you), you have used the service (albeit begrudgingly) so you should pay.


Now on the anti-House side of things, yeah go ahead and register, get a tag...... ( yeah I am kidding) look at the hellopeter reports, when getting tagged you are locked into their T's and C's which basically are a pay first, fight later scenario, and see the number of balls ups they are making with people's accounts DAILY. You will most likely not be able to top up your prepaid account (probably trying to angle for free access to your bank account), not get charged at the discounted rates (you don't just have to have a tag, but also register, merely having a tag does not = discounts) and well go have a good laugh at their incompetence while you are there

How would you explain me receiving a 'Handover' e-mail on 13/12/2013 for R527-16, and then a 'Handover 2' e-mail on 02/01/2014 for R3009-21 from VPC? I am not registered for e-toll, and never received any invoices.

Yes, I used the toll roads until mid December when I stopped traveling to JHB - but R3009???

Why isn't there a query option on Sanral's website?
