Sure if you are an iSheep and want:

• poor battery life
• tiny 3.5" screen
• slow 3G speeds
• same shape as old model
• no included voice navigation
• pay a premium

Then do the same as all the other iSheep and get the 4S.

Why not get a real phone that has 4.2" screen, does 4G, etc.

Offtopic but does anyone have a link to the iPhone 4 8gb MTN AnyTime 100 package for R269p/m...what is stock availibllity like. One doesn't see the 8gb iPhone 4 being advertised in SA.

Um...that is two phones, one phablet and two tablets!!

Neither the Apple nor the Android phones last me a full day, so I tend to use both every day. Though, the iPhone does seem to last a bit longer.....

Battery-wise, the iPad runs circles around the Android tablets.

LTE shouldn't be considered 4G last time I checked. But the manufacturers basically just went ahead and used the name '4G' anyway.

If you've got a 3GS that's going out of contract, definitely. Otherwise the 4 is good enough.

You are very wrong, there are some apps/games that won't work with 3GS. iPhone 4S has best GPU in a phone at the moment. Why settle for something less?

I've got an iphone 4 and Nexus One, which is ancient, and though the iphone is definitely smoother, the Nexus One still kicks it ass. The iPhone frustrates me, coming from Android, you really feel how limited iOS is. This is from a "techie" point of view though. My mum loves the iPhone lol

A real "techie" would jailbreak and customize the cra p out of the iPhone. The "wannabe techie's" flash already cooked custom roms on their rooted droids using clockworkmod...

You have just discredited yourself by insulting those that your trying to sway to Android. It is quite interesting to see that you are at-least not Stagnant, your evolving.

A while back you would have included Adobe flash as one of the cons with iPhone.

I have a 16 GB iPhone 4S, my battery life is excellent, I can go on for the whole day without charging, add the Mophie battery juice pack that I'm using that's two days without the need for a charger. Good luck trying to finding a juice pack or any worthy accessory for your non-iPhone.

Screen size? Really? It's a personal preference, I see you forgot to mention pixel density

Slow 3G speeds? Come on, which part of the world are you staying in? LTE is not implemented in South Africa, there are only few countries with an extensive deployment of LTE.

Same shape? If you have a winning formula use it, the shape of iPhone 4/4S is marvelous, have you ever used a macbook pro? How are the changes over different releases?

Navigation? That's so true, you can purchase it if you want.

Paying Premium? iPhone is competitively priced compared to higher end models(I don't get it Android is supposed to be free). iPhone is like the Toyota for the mobile phone industry, it's resale value quite good.

Eish... Six weeks to go 'till my upgrade. Nice that Vodacom went to the trouble 'tho and it makes me smile that even here, on the southern tip of Africa, people are happy to queue for new Apple products.

I agree, except that I feel Vodacom could have handled the launch better overall. Was sucky that the pre-registration page ended up being for new lines only, and that yesterday through the day people were still unsure of how much stock was available. Almost nobody knew about the 'launch' at Vodaworld - except the smart ones who saw it on Twitter. Also, why we had to wait for like two hours to strike midnight was rather stupid - everybody's paperwork was finished by 10!

Still - glad I could get my phone in the end.

How do you find the Galaxy Nexus?

Typically it's in my left pocket.

As a phone / OS, I think the Nexus / ICS is the first Android offer that'll be a serious threat to the iPhone. And before all the Android fanbois attack me, I've got a SII and a Note, but ICS is definitely much slicker than the previous versions. I hope they've now standardised screen layouts, buttons, etc. Not one of my Android devices give the same user experience and that's not going to sit well with normal consumers.

I'm beginning to get used to the bigger screen on the Nexus and when I'm on the iPhone it now feels cramped. It sits very well in the hand and is, for sure, a better form factor than the other handsets (SII, iPhone, etc.)

Feature wise, the two are much of a muchness but IOS still has the edge on the overall 'slickness' (scrolling, typing accuracy, etc.) of the GUI. The overall eco-system is also still better and more integrated on the Apple platform. With Android 4, the end-user must still do a fair amount of customisation.

Face Unlock is really cool as is NFC, allowing you to just 'tap' another phone to transfer a file. The panoramic camera feature is also great.

ICS is still a bit buggy (I see a fair amount of app crashes) but I'm comfortable attributing it to the pre-release sample I'm using.

All in all, I'd say with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and ICS, we now have a real contender. I like it. A lot.

But it still needs a bit of work to get that final 'professional' touch we've come to take for granted on Apple devices.

@Jannie Well, needless to say, if you got a prerelease version, it's just a matter of time before it becomes available on the Vodacom network....no launch dates yet?
