Yeah I got a 2013 Nexus 7 16gb WiFi.

Yes, it's very clean but dull. Android needs an iOS7 touch to it.

Custom roms enhance performance though.

With 4.4 Google disabled those tiny little arrows that used to show network activity. So i added those to see if I am connected and at what speeds.

You could also use Network Monitor Mini. It's very light weight but little functionality. I was using of before I installed gravitybox

I got it Thursday last week. And to be honest, it felt weird putting the S2 down. But I will still use it as a photography tool/trigger with my DSLR
