Works for me, so far. You need to update WhatsApp to the latest version and recreate the shortcut on your home screen oir wherever it is. This wasn't necessary for me though, it just worked after updating.

I dunno... AFAIK, notification badges still need some third party apps to present them.

Just purchased the Internet Speed Meter app, R26. Seems really good! Need it because I'm convinced Vodacom is screwing me on the data side of things, 1 minute I have 100MB, next day I have nothing!
Have you looked for what application might be eating your data in "Data Usage"?
