Many forums operate like this, so it shouldn't be unexpected. :)
 
@rpm, is this a good time ask for Natural Sciences to be moved out of off Topic? There is a growing number of great threads populated, serviced and seeded several members. To the best of knowledge, the debate is healthy, on topic and insightful.

Just asking.
 
Don't you guys think there will be an increase in 1time posters if this goes ahead?

I mean the competitions already have loads, now we will just get loads more.

This is a good suggestions. Smart home and IoT, Natural Sciences and Food, Cooking and Recipes should possibly be moved out. You agree?

@rpm it seems this has already been implemented, so where is the feedback?

there are quite a few topics in off-topic not controversial:
Health, Wealth, Leisure and Relationships
Natural Sciences
etc that offer much value to external people.
some information and user/community feedback on these topics are not available elsewhere, and will definitely lose there impact, usefulness to public and traffic to website.

Is it possible to split the health and wealth off from leisure and relationships? (if the latter two are debatable controversial)
or are there issues when discovery or a bank or health insurance company gets criticized on the interwebs for some failure?
 
While I understand the sentiment my feeling is that open discussions are critical to getting to the heart of issues. There is too much silencing going on, too much trying to squash discussions because they are difficult. Doing so does not make these issues go away. I see this move as putting a plaster over a septic wound because people are offended by the smell and hope that it goes away.

The assault on speech and ideas by those with an agenda who want to silence any dissent - mostly because if put under scrutiny their arguments fall to pieces and their power is thereby diminished - is the biggest threat we face as a society. Business with its pandering to the narratives and virtue signalling is just making the situation worse. What we need are people and organisations that are prepared to stand against this onslaught and promote rationality, objectivity and common sense so that we can properly address the issues that are slowly ripping our society apart.

I come to MYBB because it is one of the few publications that allows discussions around issues - and yes they may be off topic and yes there may be a number of people sprouting offensive views - that is life - shutting them down does not make them disappear - and having them out in the open allows us to see what we are dealing with (refer the septic wound analogy).

So I understand the sentiment and that making it member only would not be a full shutdown - I just think that sending the signal that open discussion is encouraged is the right call - not going in the direction of silencing.
 
It is nearly impossible in today's day & age to find unbiased, trustworthy news sources. I hope I am correct in considering Mybroadband to be a trustworthy news source. If so, I would be disappointed to see the articles regularly posted become less available & accessible to the general public purely because I feel such news sources should become more & more mainstream, not less exposed. I will however if necessary, personally take the trouble to login & keep reading the articles for as long as the unbiased, trustworthy news continues.
 
If you take this out of online searches, will this not negatively effect the exposure of MBB or do you have enough subscribers not to even consider that?

Finally, these Companies that are complaining are behaving like spoilt brats:crying:

Question: How do you know your business is heading in the right direction without inside AND/OR outside discussions/criticisms, for-or-against the business concerned AND as result, giving different perspectives some of which may well spark good changes/effects for the Company concerned?

I do not think this is a step in the right direction.....

It has everything to do with mybb not having to deal with companies seeing themselves being discussed in off topic. They should rather respond to their complaints. There is so much false marketting that mybb forum s a breath of truth in the lies as everyone can give their opinion.

SEO is what gives mybbtraffic. Forum members posting about all kinds of things brings in lots of traffic because of google.

Nope the opposite. 1 time posters reply because of googling. With SEO being affected you will get less of them

you know how a person can ignore a member?
could we please also have an option to ignore a thread?

i think some people on the forum need it to hide articles that trigger them, like racial matters
same applies to religious people as well :thumbsup:

I'm not so sure. MC is cards on the table, you pay your money, you watch DStv.

More likely to be a certain bank who "lost" hundreds of people's miles (I.e. money) earlier in the year. Many of us don't check our miles unless they're brought to our attention. R4 000 worth of mine had accidentally disappeared.

Another possibility is the discussions about shoddy service from vehicle manufacturers and medical aid/gap cover.

There should be feedback on For Sale and Wanted ads. Was the seller honest, were the goods as described, etc?
These can also be split into different categories, ie computer, audio, other, etc

It must be easier to close a post when an item is sold. At the moment, you send a PM to the seller and he responds 3 weeks later saying the item is sold

Also - For sale and Wanted must be only visible to members with a post count of 50+. This eliminates the scammers and people responding to Wanted ads with non-existant merchandise, when their sole purpose is to chisel your money out of you

Bit of this practice on 4x4 Forum, SA AV Forum.
