Showing certain forums to registered members only

Would be interesting to know when this increase in complaints started rolling in.
 
As much as I dislike the idea of closing off sections of the forum to the public, I also understand the reasons why it is being considered. So go ahead, run the trial and lets see how it goes...

I am OK with it, provided that MyBB fixes the search function, its pretty dismal, Google does a far better job.
 
I say name and shame the Karins.

If someone complains for a stupid reason, publish the complaint. That should be fun.
 
I doubt there's any real risk of it going anywhere or costing any money.

Is there even legal precedence?
 
So it's still going to end up on google search but the company now has to log in to view how they have been offended. How is this helping. :unsure:

The complaints are typically legal demands for content to be removed for various reasons, like companies being criticized, religious issues, cultural issues and the like.

The problem with these legal demands, and potential legal action, is that it makes very little difference whether it holds legal merit or not. Most people think being on the right side of the law protects you – this is not the case.

If someone sues you for defamation, it is going to cost you a lot of money. The legal costs will always dwarf the settlement, if there is one.

Something to keep in mind – MyBroadband is largely protected from these threats, but the person who posted the comment is not. The threat to forum members is therefore much larger than for the publication.

If there is no legal issue for mybb, then I suggest you forward the legal complaint/take down notice from the lawyers to the forum member and they can decide how they want to proceed.
Companies should not be able to hide their bad PR just by employing a lawyer.
 
I'm surprised the thirsty thread about actresses hasn't been shutdown by @rpm yet. Threads like that have a history of being shutdown after over zealous forumites post NSFW content and it gets flag by Google.

I'm sure MyBB would want to keep threads like that hidden from the Google Algorithm

In normal circumstances, yes. But few things in the world are as they should be and complaints can come in by those who want to uphold the idyllic but detached worldview, curbing freedom of speech and plain truth.

Closing "Off Topic" sends a message that forum members cannot be trusted to act courteously towards others. ;)
