I've just set them up, got myself a VIP login at nzbmatrix, setup the API etc. but I'm having trouble with certain NZBs.

For example, I can search for auction hunters and nzbmatrix comes up with a bunch of episodes including season 3 ep 17 and I can download the nzb manually. I've put the API details into sickbeard as well as sabnzbd but when I click the search button in sickbeard, it says it can't find a dl for it. It doesn't produce an error, it just says it can't find a download for it:

Dec-01 19:11:09 INFO SEARCHQUEUE-MANUAL-SEARCH :: Searching Sick Beard Index for Auction Hunters - 3x17 - Choo-Choo, Cha-Ching!
Dec-01 19:11:10 INFO SEARCHQUEUE-MANUAL-SEARCH :: Unable to find a download for Auction Hunters - 3x17 - Choo-Choo, Cha-Ching!

Anyone have any idea why?

Maybe something is wrong with their api. You should contact their support.

You can get a free account at https://newztown.co.za and use their api for sickbeard. They are actually nicer to me compared with nzbmatrix.

Also the local nzbsa also has a pretty decent working sickbeard API. If you like local :)

I tried to set this up and got everything working except for the part of the NZB searches, I didn't know one had to pay... :(

I used to have both a newshost and nzbsa account but I think they deleted them for inactivity.

You don't have to pay.
Between Sickbeard, Womble's and nzb.su I haven't paid a cent, and haven't come across a show I can't get hold of.

How do you add nzb.su to Sickbeard?

Sign up, get a key, go to Sickbeard->Search Providers->Configure New Provider.
Name: nzb.su
Site Url: http://nzb.su/
Key: <your key>

Once you've added it, I'd move it to the bottom of the list, since you get 10 downloads a day from there (should be enough for most people).

Thanks, so you just use those two providers? I signed up for a free account at XS Usenet.

Pooky, you have PM.
Ta MongooseMan... going to set nzb.su up.

I have Sickbeard, sabnzbd and nzbmatrix. How do I do the setup so that I only download SD or HD ?? In sickbeard the quality setting has been done but I still get that sabnzbd is downloading different qualities. What am I missing ?

Good point. I selected SD and there are .mkv's downloading. I want to avoid .mkv's.

not to be funny or anything... but why would you want to avoid .mkv's?

MKV is just a container, the CODEC determines if its SD or HD. Henerally speaking, 350mb AVI's (SD) are being replaced with 250mb MP4's (SD). The AVI's were using old codecs, and now the scene is moving to smaller files, better quality with newer codecs.

generally speaking MKV's are HD files, but keen an eye on the bitrate. Some people upload a 1080p mkv, but its like 2GB. Pathetic bitrate...

MKV is a container, it doesn't define whether something is HD or SD. The resolution does. Groups have moved away from AVI containers that use the XviD codec, towards MP4/MKV containers that use the H264 codec.

Compatibility. I can't stick it on a flash and into a DVD drive, or some older media centers. Generally .mkv's are HD (or generally people use mkv for HD files). I've seen very few small mkv's. I can watch xvids almost everywhere.

Most BR players and TVs these days play MKV files using the H264 codec, why do you still have a DVD player? :p

Better still, if one is running a Sickbeard + SABNZBd combo, they would be doing themselves a huge favour by getting a dedicated media player. The whole point of automation is to make your life easier, and you're complicating it again by copying content to a flash drive and sticking it into a DVD player that may or may not be able to play it.

My setup is as follows:
- SickBeard (series) + CouchPotato (movies) + SABNZBd.
- Postprocessing configured to automatically copy all downloads to a predefined folder structure on a dedicated disk.
- Postprocessing configured to rename all downloads to the format that I prefer.
- Western Digital media player connected to the network setup to stream from said disk.

All I have to do when I get home is turn on my TV, press refresh on my WD player, and all my stuff is available to watch. Automatically sorted into movies and series.
