Sinotec 'highly competitive' on quality

I wanted to buy the 46" whalfdale lcd before i got my projector, may still do so.

Anyone own whalfdale?

Well it's all about image quality and utility tbh. If Sinotec can match Samsung or Sony's color reproduction, contrast rates, ports etc then there's no reason not to get one.

Sadly not, they are doing so in a bid to maintain their prices in the midst of the economic meltdown. This means that prices will stay the same, but when compared to rising international prices this is really competitive:)

I have to disagree. The international prices are plummeting. Only in SA they may be going up because of profiteering by local companies and a 'weak'
yet improving Rand. Internationally prices are dropping, for instance in the USofA the crisis is causing a deflation and the same has been happening in
Japan for a while. Furthermore the drop in demand means that companies are cutting costs further and reducing profits to sell products at any rate to
keep some workers in the factories - especially in China and Japan.

They are dropping because the manufacturers of these lcd's have so much stock sitting around and they are struggling to get rid of them.

They will be dirt cheap by the end of the year overseas.

You get what you pay for. The thing is to compare both sets side by side and not just on paper. Image quality - contrast, colour gamut, response rate, upscaling - aren't just paper values like size and resolution, they are qualitative attributes which need a subjective comparison. In my experience you get what you pay for: I still use a 1993 BMW and it drives virtually perfectly and the body holds well, while a 1995 Toyota has rusted through, cracked and needed scrapping.

i only wish you could still say this after +5yrs

Well I reckon after 4.5 years i would rather be holding a Sinotec - at least they stand by their product. If Sony would give me a 5-year guarantee then I would pay the extra for what I "think" is a product with superior components.

But if Sony cannot do a 5-year guarantee it tells me that their TV will need to be fixed within 5 years.

I have still to hear anything negative about the Sinotec tvs ... definitely makes you think.

I must say I am tempted by Sony because of the link between TV and receiver so it all turns on at once. I had seperate systems for a while but got sick of needing 4 remotes just to watch dsTV!

Yeah I also believe you get what you pay for. Price and quality are always a trade off, no matter what they say.

What I meant was increased prices in terms of rand/dollar currency prices. That's what's putting the screw on Sinotec to build an assembly line here. The transport costs of a full set are greater than the costs involved with creating an assembly line here.

What I didn't mention however is that Sinotec are obviously aiming to branch out within the country and as a manufacturer sometimes take on licences to assemble other brands, although I can't name any names.

Sinotec are very much manufacturing based within SA.

I have two Full HD LCD TVs, a Sinotec and an LG. The only difference between the two is the price...

Keep telling youself that. When comparing LG to Sinotec yes. When comparing to Samsung or Sony you won't find a single person agreeing with you. Even the sales people at Makro told me to go for a smaller and better quality television. They had numerous comebacks on the Sinotec.

I just purchased a Sinotec 32inch LCD and am very content both the build and picture quality, with the price paid and the 5 year warranty that is standard...

Unfortunately they cannot ;).

Whether or not the color or contrast looks better, the same, or worse to you is a matter of opinion. The color looks 100% fine to me!

But, If you wanna use a HD LCD for a PC Display, Resolution is not a matter of opinion - and when I bought mine, the Sinotec 42" was much cheaper than all the 42" Big Brandname LCDs (Sony, LG, Samsung), and it, how can I say, WHIPS the Big Brand names and absolutely shames them.

Trust me, on a 42" you can really see the difference between 1920x1080 and a measly 1024x768 or whatever the samsungs/etc had at the time, especially at that Display size (42 inches on a 14" Resolution  no way)

So, If you're using it for a PC Display, it's not only cheaper to go Sinotec, but THE ONLY WAY to go, unless you're willing to pay a whole lot more, ofcourse.

So, you say color isn't matched - well, I disagree.
I say Resolution isn't matched, and you can't argue with that.

I must admit - I'm a bit of a brand wh0re. Bought a 42" Panasonic Viera plasma for the tv room about a year ago. Did come with a 4 year guarantee, which is great.

I'm looking for a decent priced 32" LCD (x768 resolution) for the bedroom - with all the good feedback on Sinotech I'll definitely consider if the price is right.

Funny thing is, it seems like the prices are stuck at the R5500-R6000 range. All the specials on 32" are always R5999 for the LG/Sony/Samsung brands.

Makro does have a Sinotech for R5499. But for R500 difference I'd rather take a Sony/Samsung on special.

Waiting for them to break the R5000 barrier. If Sinotech is substantially cheaper I'll buy it.

Sell it for R4000 and I'll take one for the braai room as well :D

yes iris99 i agree - they should drop their prices a bit to stay ahead.

It all depends on what's on special - R500 diff go for sammy!

(when I bought mine the price of a 42" FullHD Sinotec was about the same as a 32" LG/Sony/Sammy)

I'm a proud owner of a 47" Sinotec full HD LCD TV. I love it.

My dad has a 52" Phillips LCD TV that costs 3 times what I payed for my Sinotec. The Sinotec holds its own against the Phillips!
