I've been assigned the lucky job of showing completely technologically challenged folks how to use Skype etc.

As my life has it, they did not consult me prior to signing up for ADSL or ADSL packages (as I told them to), but rather they chose the cheapest options available at the lowest rate and lowest bandwidth allocation.

My question is. A normal session of Skype, 30 minutes to an hour, how much bandwidth does it use?

I need to find out if these folks would be able to live with Skype on a 1GB package, which I highly doubt.

Thanks in advance,

tera

I think skype operates at most 96 kbps. So if you're having a conversation with one other person and you talk one after each other you should maintain an average usage of 96kbps. But lets just say it gets a bit higher and it uses 128kbps. You would then only be using 720KB per minute and 21.6 MB per 30 mins. There's a good chance that this is really inacurate - if somebody wants to do a test with me, we can.
