Skyrim

What are your comments on conjuration vs destruction, will I be better off dumping points into conjuration or destruction?

From what I've read, both skill trees can get really powerful when high enough

Conjuration can summon some powerful minions (Daedric lords etc)

Destruction perks allow for each level of spell (novice/apprentice/adept/expert/master) to have half the magicka cost with each element having unique abilities

Intense Flames-Fire damage causes targets to flee if their health is low
Deep Freeze-Frost damage paralyzes targets if their health is low
Disintegrate-Shock damage disintegrates targets if their health is low

My current character is more stealth focused, my next character will be a caster

I read about a few builds.

Destruction/Conjuration -- Nice build as you can summon creatures to tank for you and you can just destruction them down.
Destruction/Resto - Good build aswell, lots of damage + healing so you survive long too.

Stevovo -- I'm about 7 perks into destruction and it is power, 1 shot most forsaken/drogurs* normal humans. I got 1 point in conjuration but to summon 1 companion it takes 70% of my mana.

Im now focusing on the Destruc/Resto build

I started as full destruction, but my companion was doing more damage than me, i was seriously gimped.

Going redguard, 1h + shield with restoration now and its ridiculously strong

I'm a destruction focused caster, with my major focus on lightning. I recommend the impact perk, its very satisfying to watch targets get flung off bridges and balconies :)

I agree! I do that with arrows though :p

I just want to check that I am getting the same experience as all you guys (I know that sounds weird) but is it supposed to be much easier to kill a great big roaring dragon while still struggling with Restless Draugurs and Draugur Wights. I smacked the stuffing out of Frostbite Spiders but getting mauled by Ice Wolfs. Im at level 11 so the question I guess is are dragons just wimps or is it just me?

What is your magicka sitting on currently?

Dragons vary in strength, I'm currently level 38... Frost dragons still have me sprinting for cover, but the blood dragons run from me

Okay so as I become more bad ass, so will the dragons. Thats good news but it still feels weird that i get chomped by Ice Wolfs but dragons are okay. Be that as it may though this game is still chock filled with awesome..

Yeah how I understand it, dragons scale with your level - "Dragon" being the easiest, then "Blood Dragon", then "Frost Dragon"

EDIT: I'm not a Nord, and do struggle more with the blue frost dragons

I've hardly touched the main story, but those are the 3 different types I've encountered

Giants, Mammoths, Trolls have a fixed difficulty which is why they are tough till a point

Can't wait to get this. My December 2011 will be devoted to Skyrim. Good thing when you live alone and the gf is overseas for 6 months :)

FFS i cant stop refreshing this thread, makes me so lus to go home and jol more :D the hours fly by when you play, sheesh.

Only 2 hrs 20min to go.
Then its super destruction time

I find the frost dragons the hardest :( Though having said that I have only killed three, but not sure what the first one was... the last two were definitely frost.

I only recently discovered that you can sprint... Does that allow you to "dodge" or "strafe" that snow blast thing that they do?

Yay someone else who has the same problem as me. If I take a hit from that breath, my stamina suffers

Strafing stops sprinting... you can only sprint in the direction you're facing (aka forwards). Whirlwind Sprint (shout) works covers enough distance to dodge it, but it's cooldown might cause problems if you're not behind cover for the next attack

To those lurkers who haven't gotten the game

I managed to somehow crank my useless computer up to Ultra detail (the distances still set to high) with a 5fps drop... The downside is spending more time drooling at the environment that actually playing the game :p

oh and disabling the XBOX360 control option in the settings upped my FPS significantly... I mean I actually noticed right when I went back into the game... It's crazy!!!

Will try install FRAPS tonight and get an idea of how big that jump is. I imagine its flippin big if I can notice it right away with the eye???

I haven't had a chance to play yet... but soon as the paycheque comes end of the month i am there. found this and thought it was funny, the artist recons the game is a bit buggy:
