Hi everyone,
Please can anyone help i am brand new to linux.

I installed slax 9.4 and am trying to install my usb wireless adapter which is a tp=link archer ac 1200.

I was told the driver is this one i think:

https://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/core/bionic/universe/base/rtl8812au-dkms

I have installed synaptic but when i downloaded the driver it was greyed out when i tried to add it in synaptic.

Please can anyone give me the exact commands i must type in the terminal to get the driver installed or another way ?

I am currently using a wireless adapter from someone else that was automatically detected, so i can use that if it needs to be connected to the net.

i also tried to put the driver in the home/modules folder and restarted but it does not work after restart.

ok this is what i tried with the adapter connected:

You can see the failures in the terminal box.

should i be connected to the net via the other adapter that works that i'm using now temporary to post this message in slax, then run the commands and afterwards plug in the tplink archer adapter ? ?

ok so i tried a different approach:
All is well and everything downloads until i get to suda make clean,it gives the error in the picture.
$ mkdir Stick_driver
$ cd Stick_driver/
$ sudo apt-get install git
$ git clone https://github.com/abperiasamy/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux.git
$ cd rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux/
$ sudo make clean
$ sudo make
$ sudo make install
$ sudo modprobe -a 8812au

I am stumped on what to do, is it purely because i'm using the wrong linux ?
Is it because at the command sudo make clean before i do that i need to plug in the wireless adapter i'm trying to install ?
Or is it something else ?

thanks, so if i type the above commands into a mint or ubuntu installation will it work without those errors ?

At least can someone tell me which depository link i should use for this driver for synaptic: rtl8812au ?
what should the distribution line contain and section line contain,

if i have this information my problem will be solved.

ok i finished downloaded Ubuntu 18, now just going to download mint as well just in case, should these o/s be able to detect my wireless adapter on startup

(tplink archer 1200)

or do they have bigger repositories that should contain the right driver if i get synaptic on it ?

Just try a live version of Ubuntu or one of its variants. Should be able to test install the driver without having to do a full install

did just that and it worked, i have been officially converted, no more windows for me.... Finally :D :D
can i choose to make a permanent install of mint or ubuntu from the live usb on to another usb flashdrive? will it give me the option from within the o/s thats booted from a flashdisk already, i don't want to use harddisks.

You probably could, but I am not seeing your reasoning why?

The main reason is i have an older pc as well that i would like to use again with linux, so don't have a spare harddisk for the older pc.

This older pc has a X4500 chipset onboard graphics card, in mint the max resolution it gives me is 1024x768

Is there a way to increase my screen resolution via an app i can get through synaptic ? Or is there perhaps an easy way of doing this otherwise ?
