Before my exchange was upgraded my connection would peaked at 420KB/s download (Measured with DU meter at a per sec (non averaged))

After the upgrade its gone down to 389KB/s peak download.

Is this normal? , I spoke to a Tekom tech on the side of the road and he says its coz of the software upgrade and my ISP says its not meant to be above 400KB/s. I have had 4Mb/s for years on multiple differant lines and I have always achieved peak speeds around 420KB/s.

Has anyone else registered a speed drop after the MSAN upgrade?
:wtf:

I think he just made that up to tell you something, probably thought you wouldn't know better.

That is most definitely not the case.

Have you tried using a different ISP?

No not yet\ using Axxess capped account but the timing seems quite coincidental with the upgrade. I will try my afrihost test account when I get home but they on they same backbone I guess.

Strange coz the connection is stable except or that slight speed drop

I don't think using Axxess is going help seeing as both AH and Axxess use the MTN backbone. Try with a Webafrica account or even just the Telkom guest account and run speediest from http://capetown.spdtst.saix.net.

Yes the same happened to me last year. Always used to peak at 420KB/s then new stuff was installed and now only peak at 390KB/s.
The reasoning behind it I have no idea though, but you are not alone.

That totally sucks man...hopefully with the IPC price reductions announced today I will be able to afford 10Mb/s.

Best way to test your line speed without ISP shaping getting in your way:
username: guest@telkomadsl
password: guest
http://rosebank.spdtst.saix.net/
Choose your location .Run speed test. Bingo.
(Thank you SAIX tech admins for setting up these great facilities)

Thanks...tested with WebAfrica account same story 390KB/s.

Thanks for the note about the Telkom test account unfortunately the speed test fails when trying to run from that account (Don't know if its coz PE isnt on there)

Logged a call with Telkom via ISP...Will see if I can get it back up to speed but I doubt it
