Good Day

I decided to take the plunge and get me the 100GB data offering from CellC for 1k. My issue is that my speeds are just too slow for words. Surfing normal pages take awhile to open up on any browser even the lightening fast chrome. Downloads are a nightmare even if its a simple small size app. I got it to do simple research, emails and occasional download here and there but even for that it seems too slow for words. Here is the most recent speedtest.
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5380647849 Several occasions the upload test has failed to complete.

I'm connected using a k3565-z modem plugged into a cellc Huawei D105 WIFI adaptor. Only my laptop and phone are the ones that connect to it and even whatsapp for pc at times, times out or can't connect.

Any help on the matter? I'm not expecting LTE speeds but surely even HSDPA speeds are better than this. On MTN i could average way faster speeds and thats just using my phone as a hotspot. Should i have hope of getting faster speeds? or is this the norm on cellc and i'm screwed?

Are you connected to 3G tower or 2G tower? The light on the modem indicate network type.
As far I remember K3565-Z do not support Cell C 900MHz, but I can be wrong. If I am right, then it picks up only 2G tower. It can connect to MTN 3G network, as MTN use different frequency (supported by the modem).

The modem shows that its connected to 3G because when idle its blue and when connected its that cyan colour. If I recall correctly the colour for 2G is green. Is 3G this slow on this modem? I do live in a slightly remote area but the mere fact that I have 3G means my speeds should be indicative of that. It may be good to note that I got a test sim from cellc but realized that it would connect for a few seconds then not connect at all yet on my current cellc sim I'm able to connect just fine. thats why i threw caution to the wind and had the data loaded on a sim card I already had as it was working just fine as opposed to the test sim.

Hi phly

Thank you for posting to us.

Kindly provide the Cell C number in question + your contact number via PM. You can also email this information to [email protected] for further assistance.

CellC got back to me today. they are aware of problems in my area but best solution is to wait for LTE which may only arrive next year. There are some things i could try in the interim. Will report back if any helps.

Their LTE is also BS. You don't even get 3G speeds on LTE.

I am on the 50/150 package, and right now I am experiencing anywhere from 10-95% packet loss.

The network just shuts down completely for up to 20 minutes at a time, then reverts back to normal (which for CellC means SLOW).

I still struggle through it anyway, because the bulk data prices are so low, but this has got to be the worst performing network in the country. I'm on LTE, I have an LTE phone, I have an LTE modem, both agree - terrible performance.

Also, consider their response - wait for LTE. If they can't get 2G/3G right, what makes you think LTE will be different?

An anecdotal bit of info. It currently takes 24 seconds to load the CellC home page, on a CellC SIM, on the CellC LTE network.

These are the speeds I get on LTE, *if it's working*. I have complete network failure maybe 3 or 4 times a day, lasting anywhere from 5-30 minutes at a time.

NOTE: I am being very kind with that speed test - that's to the CellC server in the same city (Cape Town). If I let Speedtest select a server for me, I get even worse results.

Also note, this is *LTE*.

Hi Marlinf

Thank you for sharing with us.

Kindly PM or email your Cell C number + location to [email protected]

We would like our Network team to have a look at your query.

Here we go again.
Slow, slow, slow connection or no connection. I have politely logged this many, many, many times. I get so many phone calls that I am going to send Emmanual a birthday card....
No improvement, no fix.
I am sending this post from a Telkom sim.
I am soooo sorry that I have this package - wish I could get my money back

Also experiencing extremely slow or no connection since yesterday. Been using my Telkom sim.

V. slow, erratic LTE connection since yesterday. Trace route to MyBB goes through Mauritius (see IP's: 105.16.10.214, 105.16.8.21), problem starts locally @Cell C (IP: 41.50.16.1)

Two problems:
1. On the one of first Cell C hops
2. Routing through seaconnect.com

On 3G connection it looks very congested, but traffic is routed corectly:
Code:
Tracing route to mybroadband.co.za [104.20.71.110]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms homerouter.cpe [192.168.8.1]

EDIT: On LTE reconnect routing has been already fixed (probably engineers working after hours), but problem moved one hop up.
