Slow Cookers

Got some no name brand. Works well enough.

I made a mistake in buying a big one though (just me) - I figured I'd just fill it less. Nope. The heating element is in the sides, so you have to fill it (mostly).

Make sure you have an easy way of mass producing chopped vegs too...filling them with hand chopped veg takes forever.

I am the perfect slow cooker.

Will start dinner around 6ish, fiddle about, tv will get my attention, then its back to the kitchen, have a snack, back to the tv. Nothing on so head back to kitchen

Rearrange stuff in the kitchen, bang some pots and pans around, make a call, take a call then check email. Try figure out what i started. Change my mind, scratch in the fridge, feed the dog. Put the oven on, go have a cigarette, back to the kitchen to have something to drink.

Try remember what i forgot to do, scratch around in the cupboards, stare at take-away menu's, look in the fridge again, make some coffee. Write grocery list then put the car in the garage. Back to the kitchen and turn stove off. Go call mr delivery - closed. God damn it.
Back to the kitchen. Have some ice cream and think about dinner some more.
Have another cigarette then dig in the freezer. Lose interest and go back to the tv - still hungry so back again to the kitchen but on the way remember something i forgot.

Dash to laptop, look for youtube video about removing stuck dvd from macbook pro, before long i am learning how to bath an egyptian sphynx cat. Notice its getting light outside, dash to kitchen, grab bowl of cereal - done !

Do you own one? Would you recommend buying one?

What do you like to make in it?

Trying to decide if I need one or not. :D

Why would you want to buy a slow cooker? Seems like a waste of money to me.

Just slow down. I usually take my time when I cook. And the money I saved of not buying a slow cooker, I just use on wine I buy for my inbetween breaks during cooking.

Dinner once took 3 hours. Now that's slow cooking :)

I own two for some reason...just kinda happened. They are great (especially if it has a timer built in) for those of us who come home late and don't want to go to bed hungry.

Still worth it or not? Thinking of buying one today.

I use ours all the time. I saw this one at checkers the other day and I’m seriously considering buying one. Not only does it do your traditional slow cooker meals but, as far as I can tell, it doubles as a sous-vide.

Thanks will look for that one, our Checkers only has the small Russell Hobbs

I bought one a month ago, used it 3 or 4 times in the first month as we worked quite long hours. Was quite nice getting home and then my main meal is finished and I only have to make something quick on the side.

Haven't used it since as I went on leave on the 1st of December. Will use it again for Christmas meals.

Once I start working in January it will probably be coming out of the box again regularly.

If anyone here has some nice slow cooker recipes maybe we can share?

Whatever you can make on the stove you can make in the slowcooker.

You need to use less water.
If you want fried onions and such I normally do that on the stove. Dump everything with some water into the slowcooker. Set to high if you want it going quicker, and turn it down to auto once boiling. If no time to watch it then turn it to auto at the start it will auto adjust between high/low to keep the cooking process going.

I've had a kenwood for about 7 years now. Its still going strong.
