Hi Guys

Any idea what the problem could be? I am syncing at full 4meg and 512kb, downloading is also running at full speed. The problem lies with the upload where I'm getting nothing higher than 50Kbs?

Could this be due to the IS issues recently or something else? I'm on Afrihost.

Any help is welcomed.

as in around 5 kilobyte? hmm, is it happening while you are downloading at full speed at the same time? i dunno, the downstream could be getting saturated -not allowing enough overhead to come thru, you could be limiting, or it could be as simple as confusing bytes for bits :)
how are you testing btw?

Its literally kilobytes. I'm using the speedtest.neotel.co.za as the one at speedtest.net fails on the upload. Should i reset my port?

Ok so asked telkom to reset the port, lets hope that this fixes the line. I will only be able to test it when i get home tonight.

Um... you're syncing at 4mb/512. You know the 4mb is download and the 512k is upload, right?

So your download speed will be around 400kbps while your upload will be around 50kbps. Sounds normal to me.

Ok maybe I am not explaining or writing the KB / kbps? Here is an image speedtest result.

Ok, makes sense now. Definitely NOT normal. Have you tried different speed tests?

Yes speedtest.net fails on the upload. I have tried 2 different routers and different ISP accounts, one on IS network and the other on SAIX all with the same results.

I got telkom to reset my port, but I am unable to check it out until i get home tonight.

because you are syncing at the right speed makes me think it's not the line. and all the swops you did eliminate everything apart from the computer. sometime back i was swearing at telkom every day over a similar issue only to find i set a limit on a host process i had forgotten about with netlimiter. so if you aren't doing anything like that my next guess would be that there's something wrong with the network interface

Too update, the port reset fixed the problem. I did check my netlimiter after and saw that svhost was limited so perhaps it was that? Sorted now.

svchost would only limit Windows related services, like Windows (Samba) Shares, and not uploading from browsers.

Glad you got it sorted.

tbh, i didn't expect the reset to work but seems it did. they should put this self-serve thing on their site where you just submit your number, then again they aren't known to be leaders at offering innovative things
