Absolutely. I bought the D5000 (D3000 with Liveview) and find it amazing. It offers all possible options from easy P&S to fully programmed or manual mode.

No one mentioning the Sony alpha 12MP and above range.

There is a reason for that. Although they are not totally useless, you can do a lot better...

Actually I think the new Alpha's ranges are pretty decent and there isn't much between the entry-level cameras now anymore...

Don't get me wrong. My A-100 has taken some great shots, and still does. I just know a D90 (maybe even a D3000) can do the job so much better.
