Smart light switches

I just wish it was a physical button on the T1 and not a touch panel. It requires you to actually look at the panel to switch the light on.

Which is why I've gone with physical light switches and sonoff mini's instead.
Look at it because the panel is smooth as it's a touch button?

I'm keen to upgrade as many of my analog light switches to smart ones eventually. This thread will be a useful resource.

I am getting smart lights to use voice control. Otherwise whats the point other than automated scenes?

Loving the voice control convenience with smart bulbs, so looking forward to smart light switches.

Yeah, it's a smooth panel so you actually need to look at it to switch the light on. It's not something you'd ever think would bug you, but it worked on my nerves enough to change my lightswitches and how I want to proceed with smart light switches. I use normal switches now with Sonoff mini's, so end result is smart lights with normal light switches.

Yip, definitely convenient to have voice control. I can't imaging ONLY using voice control though. You'd need an Alexa/Google Home all over the house, or shout across the house to switch lights on... or have your phone on you all the time.

Majority of my lights are smart, and my usage pattern of switching on/off are:
20% automated scenes
20% voice control
60% manually switching lights on and off

Forgive me if this is a daft question but if the light is switched on at the switch and then you turn it off through the WiFi, and then turn it on again at the switch, is the switch in the "on" position, meaning you flick the switch "off" to turn the light on?

I also agree about the Sonoff light switches, i have set them up that I really don't have to touch them much, but when you do you have to look at where you are touching. If would be a good idea if they used a raised bump (almost like braille bumps) this would make it much better to the touch.

I think you have to have a momentary switch, so no actual on or off position.

I have these...?

That would be the case yes, but I use the Veti 2 light switches..
They don't have a visible on/off position as they are momentary.

So far they are the only off the shelf momentary light switches I've found (and cheapest)

If you use the Veti 2 though, make sure you get 2 way switches which have a incoming live for each lever. If you get the 1 way then there is only 1 incoming common live which won't work with Sonoff mini's, unless someone has tested them that way. I've already blown up 1 sonoff mini, don't feel like doing another :p

Ah, those are fancier than my switches for sure!
They come in charcoal too. I have a post here somewhere in this thread on how I fitted a 3 gang into my wall.
Will give you an idea of what's required.

I've changed my whole house to Sonoff lightswitches.

"Hey Google, turn on all the lights"

My favourite thing is having a single button to turn on all the lights in the house.. great for waking up in the middle of the night if the alarm goes off.

The scenes are confusing to my wife. In our main bedroom one button turns on the passage and kitchen. In each of the kids' rooms one button turns on the bathroom and kitchen. In my lounge one button turns on all the lights. Same in the garage. Then another button in the lounge turns on all outside lights. For some reason my wife hates this one button for all setup so to make things easier I've set all lights to turn on at sunset and turn off at sunrise. Though I've found that nowadays the switches turn the lights on a tad too early

I actually just use the tasmota firmware to set that, instead of via home assistant. Been working well so far. Just use it on my outside lights though.

Really depends on implementation.

If you are "modding" normal light switch to make it smart then you'll have this be the case in most instances yes.

If you are replacing with completely smart switches then it's not a problem.

I'm deciding which would work best.

Half of my switches are dimmer ones like in the photo I posted. The other half are the same switch but not dimmable. Just on and off.

Got the sonoffs installed, so now I turn the lights on with Alexa, Google assistant, eWeLink and my finger.

I am busy replacing all my light switches with exactly this charcoal switch.

Nice, I'm doing our new build with charcoal as well.
There's a little LED that you can use too, but then you'd need to bring 220v neutral and live down to the switch again. Would love to use it, but not sure if it's worth the hassle.
