Smart light switches

You'll also find that often your neutral is passing through the inspection box above the switch on it's way to the light fixture
Inspection box? Havent seen one but my house very old.

Will pull neutrals to last 7 switches and install more qualitel light switches.

Happy with them. Blue is off, red is on and makes an audible click when using Google to switch lights on or off.

Automation in smart life app works well for outside lights on light switches.

Edit: also fits neatly over my old light fittings. No gaps or markings, so no need for borders.

Not sure who all knows, as I didn't, that in smartlife app (tuya) you have an option to associate more than one light switch with the same light.

In other words differs from group where you simply switch off 2 switches and 2 lights at the same time.

So now you switch off one light but can use 2 different switches.

Maybe get one and check that it covers the opening left by the old switch. The Sonoff's are slightly smaller than the old fashion light switches.
Other than that, nothing really. I bought mine from Banggood where they were nice and cheap. I also picked up a couple from Smartkit.
Where you may possibly need to get creative is if you have a 2way switch somewhere. I.e two switches that control a single light. There are things you can do about this if you flash them with Tasmota like utilizing long press actions etc.
In tuya based Smart life app, option of association. It seems software based only but not sure how it works in practice.

To which live and neutral etc is 2nd switch linked. I understand it doesn't have to be linked to same light but it the 2nd light switch must have neutral at least to be powered?

I had wondered about that before I got the switches.
Now its second nature to just press the right area, the switches can also be illuminated at night if you set them that way.
Mine qualitel ones, illuminated at all times. Blue is off and red is on.

"The most common requirement of any hardwired automated light switch is a neutral wire. Yes, there are a few…(read very, very, very few) switches that don’t require a neutral, but those will limit you to incandescent only. For those of us using LED, Fluorescent or some other energy efficient bulbs under 20w a neutral is REQUIRED!"

Hmm - wasn't aware of above.
Still want to test a light switch that doesn't require neutral.

Not true. The ones that don't require a neutral wire can work with bulbs under 20W. The switches are supplied with a capacitor that is placed across the light fitting as per your pic. I have no neutral switches in my home, all on LED lights, and they work perfectly with the capacitor fitted.

This only works on 2-gang and 3-gang switches. You can then use the 2nd or 3rd gang that isn't connected to a light as a software switch to switch of any other light on another tuya-based smart switch.

Then surely most would opt for this as it would be easier than switches requiring neutral?
Pulling neutrals into switches a real PITA, at least for me

I'll try one out to see.

Any recommended electricians familiar with sonoff in the Randburg area?

Would need to start from scratch.

Dont know any but are you referring to Sonoff light switches or the basic switches connected to light switches or outlets etc?

Those little things that fit in the wall behind the light switch :)

Will progress from there.

Keeping an eye on this thread

So I got this to test out:

Got it today and installed, so far so good. Works well with Google home/ and Google Assistant.

Timers, remote switching. Glass touch face.

Only one issue I had is it was a bit of trouble to set up with the app, but otherwise it's fun not needing to stand up to switch lights.
I will get more to replace the other switches.

Was able to get it to work without pulling Neutral wire and just use the earth wire instead.

If bulk buy directly from qualitel. Quick shipping, virtually overnight. Shipping worth it if buying in bulk.

Hmm prices escalated. Loved them because well priced and good quality plus SA certified. But prices increased steeply eg plugs now R305 vs R279 vs original R209.

The earth is for protection and not supposed to be used as a return path. All you needed is 1 fault. Do yourself and your family a favour and pull a neutral.

Yeah, I should remove that part of the comment, was only temporary for testing
