Smart light switches

You can either use a Shelly smart button (battery operated version). Or Aqara etc.

OR

Could link via Home Assistant to the phone or speaker etc.
Thanks I'll check it out..

Quick question guys. If one has a lets 4 gang switch, and you want to go Sonoff minis, do you need 4 x Sonoff minis? or how does it work?
If you want to use Sonoff Minis, then yes, you'll need 4 (and likely won't be able to fit it behind the light's switchbox).

Guys, I need a cheap smart idea for a door bell. Doesn't have to ring, camera or anything, but I'm looking for a solution, where I can place some outdoor switch, which can then alert me on my phone or Nest hub that somebody is at the door.. don't really want to spend money on a nest door bell, as I have cameras outside already.

Is there something like this out there, or ways one could implement something like this?

Aqara button?

I have a Sonoff RF bridge with a normal cheap wireless doorbells (just the transmitter). Works well. IMG_0430.jpg

Saba'a can the RF Button work with a Zigbee bridge, or only with a Sonoff RF Bridge?

Does it have to be paired with an Aqara bridge, or can I use another bridge like the Xiaomi one? I understand Aqara is part of Xiaomi or The other way around?

Yeah Aqara is a sub-brand of Xiaomi.

You should be able to pair it with anything that supports Zigbee.

They are quite cheap from Miro, especially if you can collect.

Sweet, will check it out
Aqara plays well with HA from what I gather IF you using HA.

And normally good value.

Considering myself to invest in Aqara door sensors now that I'm exploring Home Assistant (HA) and thus able to mix and match brands/ecosystems.

I'm only asking about a cross with the Xiaomi stuff, because I note that the Xiaomi sensors, etc are cheaper than the Aqara ones. So if one could mix them, then that would be great

I have no idea how HA works, but will look into it..

Zigbee hubs should work with other zigbee devices as zigbee is a standard.

Below YT video might be interesting:

I had no idea either and although its NOT as intuitive or picks up all devices immediately. But its a way to co-ordinate most devices.

Besides Shelly, I had to load integrations/add ons for Sonoff and Tuya.

Allows me now to mix and match Shelly with Tuya/Smart Life and Sonoff/ewelink devices.

Can now even bring my inverter's solarman logger into automation scenes with other devices.

Just bit steep to learn and I'm still at stage of dipping toes into HA. But its definitely in the long term until MATTER/CHIP arrives, the best home automation "hub" to mix and match different branded devices.

I just use this with mine.

Directly in Home Assistant.

Of course if you don’t use Home Assistant having one of the App-driven hubs is easier but more expensive.

My plan is to replace my doorbell with an Aqara button and just have my HomePods announce someone at the door and maybe Home Assistant send an iOS message.

My camera would by then likely notified to phone anyway.

****

I do find the Aqara app and devices better than the Xiaomi branded ones and was planning to buy an M2 hub because it makes everything talk to HomeKit but now feel it’s a bit pointless.

If I wasn’t going the HA route then an M2 + Sensors is the way to go.

Is this too expensive?

It’s a pretty solid stand alone solution.

Can even add this.

Wow I can't believe how much these companies charge to do smart home installations. Just sonoff switches, I got a quote of R15k

I might as well just do it myself with some Shelley's, or just buy smart bulbs.

Yeh I don't want to pay that for a doorbell. I tell you why though.

I have a normal Intercom type thing outside, and it's getting a bit annoying now with kids or people looking for food randomly ringing that thing, late at night, or early morning..

So all I want, is to see if I can just find a solution, where the notifications comes through to my phone, which will also be annoying, but at least at night I can mute my phone. The RF solution bell Saba'a posted might just work, if I get a Sonoff bridge.

This one should have DND hours you can set for notifications and chiming etc.

So you can tell it only to alert during X hours and so on.
