Smart Village FTTH network opened to ISPs

Finally!!!. i have been waiting 4 years for this. Being locked in by Smartvillage with their "always off" ISP

finnally im at jackals creek all i have ever heard was bad things of smartvillage so opted to go without adsl now can get mweb soon can't wait!

Freaking hell about time I can get away from these people! My internet drops regularly and their support is non existent!

Sounds like Smarter Village!

But I would like to see Afrihost, Openweb and Access, rather than

It's a start, at least.

Unless I'm not understanding this correctly, you're only going to be able to choose which ISP provides your bandwidth - not any of the infrastructure running to your flat (ie: you can't get an ADSL line installed).

Currently - at least for the complex I'm in - the bandwidth is provided by MWeb, so when MWeb goes down it affects me. Theoretically these changes mean my internet connection would "branch off" to another ISP and not be affected (and I could have a different account, with another ISP, in case my main one goes down). There are also restrictions on a local router as to how much traffic it can put through, and during busy times the internet gets slow and packets start getting dropped, long before MWeb is even touched... it seems like this is a kind of throttling put in placed on uncapped accounts (which I have), so I guess (HOPE!) that would fall away and bandwidth restrictions be handled per ISP account, by the ISP.

All in all this definitely sounds like a good thing, but suspect it's still not going to be as good as having a proper ADSL connection :/

I assume it will be nice if you can actually get the service... Nevermind being off. I've tried phoning them, emailing the, eventually gave up and bought another 8ta bundle!

Has anybody been able to use another ISP yet?

I have asked Smart Village if they are open to other ISP's and if so, which ones - no reply as yet. Anyone else had any luck in getting data from another ISP?

Hmmm seems like I am not the only one asking this question! I am potentially moving into Jackal Creek and would not mind paying them the line rental portion and using Afrihost or similar.

I called them and got the "sorry we are the only ISP in Jackal Creek" - Is this still true?

Another guy looking at property at Jackal Creek here. Whats the latest regarding the ISP choice?

I just moved to a place with Smart Village. It works ALOT better than my previous ADSL connection.

Does anybody know if there are other ISP's providing services on the SV network yet?
