smtp.vodacom.co.za

If this keeps up, i'm gonna start recommending Vodamail to my customers for personal use rather business use.

Well must say that after what have happened to me with Vodacom, was a bad experience and I do not want to go through that again. Now I have 4 e-mail accounts as backups and Vodacom is only for personel e-mail. But there they also fail me. I am still having problems with their e-mail service. Do they know what the problem is? We do not get enough info except for the sms's that they are still looking into it. TOO MANY TECHIES SIT AND WATCHING THE SERVER AND NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

GMail all the way man... ;)

Is it my problem or is the internet broken?

Since yesterday I have been having major problems with particularly email, but browsing is also very slow.

I could not send out any emails with attachments via smtp.vodamail.co.za. Outlook express said they were sent, but it happened too quickly. A mail sent with attachments took at least 5mins to appear in the destination mailbox. I then switched to the gmail smtp server. This time the mail did go, but it took a long time to send. The mail took over 30mins to be delivered to the destination mailbox.

This morning i once again tried sending an email (via gmail) and copied it to myself (No attachments on this one) . That was at 10h42. It is now 12h37 and no sign of it yet! Gmail webmail eventually loaded up (after suggesting that I opt for the compact version) Gmail shows that the mails were processed....

To me it seems as if there is a problem on the international links and mail servers are getting backed up. Anyone else noticed such problems?

This is getting ridiculous - I'm even contemplating fax!

Hi MainMeat!

Same here in Nelspruit - maybe somebody is upgrading the system and it will be 100% better?

Best of Luck,

Neville
PS - only people with a laptop or an UPS are on the internet in SA!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

good, then I am not alone...VC - ETA or alternative if possible...I want to send emails please!

BTW - If you are upgrading it - why 16:30 in the afternoon if I may ask...the entire country is still working and sending those last minute emails?

Yes, create a GMail account for yourself, then add your GMail account settings including GMail's smtp server, in your email client - simple & problem solved for sending draft emails.

Exactly:D

Also, you can send out VC emails on the Gmail smtp server using your gmail username and password:)

Vodacom SMTP problems

Can't get any e-mail sent, getting an error message:
An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: smtp5.vodamail.co.za Error: too many connections from 196.11.146.71

This happens with all e-mails, not only certain mail servers...

Assistance will be appreciated!

Vodacom SMTP problems

Have you tried just entering SMTP.vodacom.co.za? instead of the SMTP5...
That's what I use. Also if you are on a different network i.e. not using Vodacom as the provider you will need a different SMTP that you can get from the network admin. Maybe Vodacom3g can help more that I can!

NO idea where the smtp5 comes from, my outgoing server is smtp.vodacom.co.za.
I am connected through Vodacom 3G

Hasn't changed anything whatsoever, since last night when everything worked 100%

Having the same problem here. I'm in Montana, Pretoria connected on HSDPA through the internet apn.

Code:
albertvd:/> telnet smtp.vodacom.co.za 25
Trying 196.11.146.149...
Connected to smtp.vodacom.co.za.
Escape character is '^]'.
421 smtp6.vodamail.co.za Error: too many connections from 196.11.146.71
Connection closed by foreign host.

My IP is not even 196.11.146.71 - it is 41.14.x.x.

It looks like round robin DNS or something - it happens to come back from smtp5, smtp6 and smtp8. The only time it worked was through smtp9.

Disconnecting and reconnecting does not resolve the problem.

So I tried to connect to the company SMTP server in the USA and this also fails from time to time - almost like there is a firewall in place dropping packets on port 25. Problem with this SMTP server is that it rejects mail half the time due to the dynamic IP address from Vodacom which appears to be blacklisted at Spamhaus.

Hi AntonF

When you say: "This happens with all e-mails, not only certain mail servers..."

Do you mean using smtp.vodmail to send to different destination servers, or you also trying different relay servers ... eg smtp.telkomsa.net ?

I am trying to ascertain if the problem is only with vodamail smtp or a all smtp.

telnet smtp.telkomsa.net 25
Trying 196.25.211.150...
Connected to smtp.telkomsa.net (196.25.211.150).
Escape character is '^]'.
220 telkomsa.net ESMTP Welcome to the TelkomSA SMTP Server.

Sorry, only trying to send from vodacom, I don't have an alternative. All outgoing mails give the same error, regardless of the recipient server
