SNR and Line Attenuation

Really strange thing happened to my line... It lost 6db's some how.... Its currently sitting at 5 as we speak and drops to 4....

Thing is my line should lose 6db's from 12db's during the day and then back to 12db again at night..

Will see how it goes during the day...
 
Is this decent? I'm back visiting canada and I just wish I had the Internet in SA like they have here...

*EDIT* This is a new router that I'm using, and the figures do vary from my previous DS and Line figures that I had. Getting a brand spanking new Billion next year January, can't wait.
 
@Amckenzie: Those are really good figures. I assume that you are connecting via ADSL2 not ADSL1 like in SA. Unless your linespeed is limited by your package to 12Mbps etc. your noise margin should allow you to increase your speed even further. According to Fremnet your downstream attenuation value should allow linespeeds around 20Mbps but interleaving should reduce this somewhat.

How much are you paying for your ADSL service in Canada? Are there any usage based caps? What is the cost of mobile internet (HSDPA, EVDO etc.) - at one stage this was quite expensive in Canada? Can you get fibre to the home yet in Canada or are there any plans to start offering it shortly?

For what would be 500 rand per month you get the uncapped internet, 40 or so tv channels and 5 movie channels plus the radio stations and stuff (they have IPtv) and unlimited calling after 6 or something like that....as for the mobile internet Rogers here finally got HSDPA but at ZAR 0.35 per KB !!! its a total waste of money actually quite a scam, and the HSDPA works on 850/1900 so unless you have a recent phone its usless if you coming from europe or SA etc...the EV-DO is also very expensive the same as the HSDPA I belive but I hate CDMA and anything that goes along with it so I never would consider it...I'm just roaming on rogers here with vodacom and its cheaper for me to use data roaming chanrges with vodacom than it is to buy a SIM card and use the local rates...crazy...So SA wins part of the battle Telkom just needs to sort out the DSL
 
Should the RX Noise Margin fluctuate wildly?

I have a Netgear and am running Routerstats.. the rx noise margin is 10 to 13 during the day and 4-8 at night with many resyncs at night.

I have a 4096 line too... here is what the stat are presently:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 384 kbps
Line Attenuation 55 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 6 db 13 db

?
Never seems to work right does it!

When i switch the router off and back on again...My SNR is back to 12 but then starts to tumble downhill slowly....Monitoring with RouterStats.... I'm clueless... It was on 1db just now:confused:

Edit.. Just rebooted the router now

I just got this 4meg line what speeds should I see from local news hosts? Im getting 75-80+KB/s cached and 60KB/s for uncached....local torrents clocking in at 50-70KB/s

Btw all these speeds are at the same time
